If We Were Having Coffee on the 20th of January

Coffee in NH with Moog

Good Morning!  Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of strong Sumatra Roast.  I can get you a cuppa tea (wide variety of black, green, white and herbal), a mug of cocoa, some bourbon, or other morning appropriate beverage.  It’s an odd day out there.  It will get quite warm later.  I hope the deep, deep cold is done for the winter!  I don’t mind “average” winter weather of  cold (not frigid) nights and a little above freezing during the day.  And then these days that are warm?  They are welcome!  The cold earlier was brutal.  So were are we?  Some of you may recognize that picture as coming from McDonald’s Pub, Co. Mayo, Ireland New Hampshire.

An odd week.  It began with a day off.  Funny, but I did not get as much done over the weekend as I expected.  I did a lot, but don’t ask me what.  And then I had planned on driving down to Cape Cod on Wednesday, but they were predicting a large storm, so I decided to stay home (thus another NH coffee share).  We did get some snow (about 5″/13 cm), which I was able to clean up without too much of a problem.  Not a large storm. Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea, some cocoa or other warm beverage.  Despite how it felt just a few hours ago, it is no cold and winding, the temperature already having fallen over 30 F in the last 4 or 5 hours and with it possibly sinking another 30 degrees before tomorrow morning.  And were are we that saw 60 F (16 C) this morning but will get down to 6 F (-15 C) tonight?  From the photo at the top of the post some of you may know that we are in New Hampshire today.

This has been an odd week.  I have been doing a lot of work towards getting The Halley Branch ready.  I am not working on the draft, but on other things which will see the the light of day very soon.  I’ve also been doing some studying, which I’ll talk about on another day.  I have been reading.  Just all sorts of stuff. Moog and Morning Coffee

Welcome!  Come in!  Quick, and let’s close the door behind you.  Sorry about all of the noise.  It is impossible to keep the house warm, but I’m trying.  Here, I will get you a nice large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast or a cuppa tea or hot cocoa or other warm beverage.  It is cold!  And where are we that is so cold?  Some of you may recognize that photo at the top of the page as being taken in New Hampshire.

OK, the news is that it is cold ;)  It has been cold all week, with a slight warm up (still below freezing) on Wednesday and Thursday.  Thursday was the big storm, though there wasn’t really a huge amount of snow – maybe 8″ to 10″ (20 – 25 cm).  We typically get a storm of 15″ + (40 cm +) every year, and occasionally over 3 feet (1 m) in a single storm, so less than a foot?  But it turned cold at the end of the storm and started to blow.  There has been a lot of drifting.  The high today was 10 F (-12 C) and tonight will be down around -10 F ( -24 C), maybe colder.  It was 50 below on Mt. Washington in NH with windchills of more than -100F! Continue reading

If We Were Having Coffee on the 30th of December, 2017

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get a large mug of very strong Sumatra Roast, a steaming cuppa tea, some cocoa or other hot beverage.  You’ll need it!  It is cold.  It is very cold and has been for a while and will continue to be cold for a while to come.  It has been years since we’ve had as deep of a cold snap and I don’t ever remember one like this in December.  And where am I?  Well, although it is cold all over the eastern half of the continent and even colder up in New Hampshire, I am on Cape Cod today.

I took this week off of work, so no complaining about work this week.  There was Christmas, and I had the fun of shoveling snow that day.  Better than the ice I did earlier, or shoveling in the pouring rain!  Christmas gifts, you ask?  I got some clothes and some DYI type electronics stuff.  Some art supplies.  How about you?  Was Santa good to you? Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other hot beverage.  Be careful on your way in, it is slick!  It snowed all day Friday.  The total accumulation was low, but the roads were slick all day.  It was very cold, but warmed up during the storm so there was a little mixed precipitation at the end, which packed down all of that light, fluffy cold snow.  But then we had freezing rain all day on Saturday.  It got cold last night, so everything is covered in ice.  And where is this horror show of winter weather?  Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being taken in New Hampshire.

My weekend so far?  I spent a big part of the day reading, writing and editing.  I am almost ready to call it a third draft on The Halley Branch.  I spent two hours in the pouring freezing rain shoveling (I didn’t shovel on Friday, because I didn’t want two inches of ice to cover everything.  It’s easier to remove wet, heavy snow than ice.).  I was soaked to the bone.  And then I went out for a chunk of the evening, doing some shopping, eating out, etc.  I did almost no blogging, which is why the coffee share post is today.

Today has been taking care of dogs, doing stuff around the house, etc. Continue reading

Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a piping hot mug of very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other warm beverage.  Baby, it’s cold outside!  Yes, that song, is playing in the background as I write, but it is cold.  Frigid.  It has been for days and will be for days more.  This is late January weather.  And not just any late January, but a cold snap in January.  Brrrrr.  Yet flowers are blooming!!  In the single digits F (about -15C).  With snow and ice.  Spring flowers. Forsythia.

Forsythia in the snow

And were is this strange weather happening?  Some of you may recognize the photo at the top of that cool Moog synthesizer as being in New Hampshire.

Last week I said I was going to do some drawing.  Well, here it is, a drawing of the Firstborn from my book The Fireborn.  (I colorized the drawing on the computer). Continue reading

If We Were Having Coffee on the 9th of December, 2017

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in out of the cold drizzle.  At least it isn’t snowing, though I guess it is on “the mainland”.  I’ll get you a nice mug of very strong Sumatra Roast or a cuppa tea or other warm beverage to take the chill off.  And where are we?  Those who have joined my Coffee Shares in the past may recognize that stack of Beatles mugs as living on Cape Cod.

Thinking of Beatles, I’ve been listening to the Beatles over the last two days.  You see, yesterday was December 8.  Google it.  Yes, one of the saddest days in musical history, when the man who wanted us to give peace a chance had his life ended in violence.  Right now “All You Need is Love” is playing very loudly as I type. Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of very strong French Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea, or other warm beverage.  It is a bit chilly out there right now.  It will get seasonably warm today, so still sweater weather, but not awful. Oh yes, were am I?  By the photo at the top some of you may know we are in New Hampshire this week.

I will admit that it was difficult going to work on Monday!  I wanted my little vacation to go on forever!  I did go in, and it was a very busy week.  It will continue to be busy for the foreseeable future.  It may get worse!  In ways it beats not having enough to do!  On the other hand, when I have a few minutes of free time at work, I can sneak in a little blogging.  I have not been able to sneak in even a minute recently…

Yes, my blogging slowdown that I started over two months ago is still going on.  My stats are even farther down, on a day to day basis, than September or October.  If I don’t do something, 2018 will be back to someplace between my 2014 and 2015 level.  Sigh.  I just don’t have time, so stats will be stats….  Life takes precedence over blogging. If We Were Having Coffee on the 25th of November

Hello!  Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other beverage.  It is a bright sunny day, with blue, blue sk8ies.  It is relatively warm, given the location and the time of year.  And what is the location?  Some of you may recognize that photo at the top as being taken in my cottage on Cape Cod. (edit – Ooops, if I mention a photo, I guess i should include it!)

This was Thanksgiving week here in the US.  I only worked Monday and Tuesday.  I drove down here Tuesday night, so most of the week was at the “vacation home”.  And for the most part , that was it.  It has been a very relaxing week.  I have read, studied, walked on the beach, walked in the woods, gone for a run on the bike path, kayaked, spend a huge amount of time supervising “dog play” in the back yard (they love it!), and, well, just doing nothing.

One big highlight was seeing a deer on the beach.  I had Idina with me.  She didn’t see the deer, but when I brought her to the tracks, she did not want to do anything but sniff.  She followed the trail till the place where the deer jumped up a dune/cliff, then the other way down the beach.  I finally drug her away. Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Brrrr…  Come in out of the cold and I’ll get a large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other warm beverage.  After it went from late summer to mid winter a week or two ago, it has stayed winter.  Well, no.  We had the cold, dark, drizzly days of November.  If it were January, we’d have a few feet of snow…  And where are we this week?  Some of you may recognize the photo of that synth at the top as living in New Hampshire.

Wow, what a week.  The worst part about it is that I don’t remember a thing! Continue reading
