Darkening Story – #haiku #tanka

Piles of them

Hue towards orange
Bruise purple and macabre brown
The world turns spooky

Lose leaves on patio

Tingle down my spine
Visions of a darkened hue
Words ghoulishly stained
This season I like to read
Some tales embellished by fear

Autumn on Fire #haiku #tanka

Kitchen Window

Morning light strikes gold
Bright rays hit October leaves
Sets forest aflame

Out of my window

Watching from window
A beautiful glowing death
Spellbound in delight
In this cycle we call life
The phoenix must show envy

Note – the photos, all taken from my kitchen window, are from a couple of years ago – we do not have any color yet.

After the Equinox – #Haiku #Tanka

Leaves, heald track

Bid to last the day
Wind shakes the color from tree
Death plunge of a leaf

My back yard

A bid to summit
The crackle beneath my feet
Dislodged stone slides down
Autumn hike on a mountain
Tests my feet but frees my soul

To A Poet Unborn

Achellis-n-Briseis

Looking over the nameless dead
Dust drinking the blood of all
I think of an unborn poet
Whose blind eye sees them fall
He’ll know their hearts and minds
And write a story for us all

He’ll give each man a name
And name family and friend
He’ll tell their passions
Then relate their gory end
He’ll speak of the wife and daughter
Who will no longer see their man
He will talk of fields untended
While the bodies rot in sand
Achaian or Trojan, it matters not
They all have the same loves and joys
And each side in a useless war
Throws them out like useless toys Continue reading

When the Force is With Me – #Haibun #Tanka

When the Force is With Me

I feel the eyes upon me and smile.  I know that I will soon see your sign, that you were really there, thinking of me.  Perhaps in a day or two we will pass a few words, just to make concrete what we instinctively knew, that our thoughts had once again crossed, that somehow our spirits had touched in a spark, though we are far apart.  But that is still in the future and will resolve itself in time.  For now I am content to feel the weight of your mind’s eye on my shoulders and smile, hoping you can feel my sunshine in return.

I can feel your fire
And sense your vitality
Burning from afar
Why do I see you, my dear
From the far side of the world?

A Change in the Weather #Haibun #Senrya

hydrengea

So blue and cranky
Some cold in the summer heat
Miss your joyous face

A gloomy forecast
Skies a melancholy grey
Hope for upbeat news

There is a change in the weather of my soul.  A high pressure is replaced by a low.  The outlook is a bit pessimistic, but with your sun away, what can I say, I’m feeling down.  Can I hope for a new front that’s a bit more upbeat?  Will your merry eyes and joyous smile once more show up on my RADAR?  I hope to dance in the rain in delight, when that rainbow that’s you is back in sight.
