If We Were Having Coffee on the 20th of May, 2018

Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in.  I’ll get a mug of strong French/Sumatra roast blend, a cuppa tea, some juice or whatever.  It is sunny, but a little chilly out there.  Don’t worry, it will warm up.  There might even be thunderstorms this afternoon. And were are we?  Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being taken in New Hampshire.

The big thing to talk about is the return of Spring.  The trees have leafed out nicely.  Everything is very green, except where there are flowers.  I mowed the lawn.  I’ve worn shorts most of last week.  Spring has Sprung.  If it wasn’t for the roads looking like a war zone, you would never know that we had winter.

Work was, well, not as busy as it has been, but still very busy. Continue reading

If We Were Having Coffee on the 12th of May, 2018

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in.  It is kind of cool and grey out there.  It’s been threatening rain all day, with a few sprinkles here and there, but so far the heavy rain has missed us.  If you are wondering where I am, some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from my cottage on Cape Cod.

This has been another busy week.  Although Tuesday was a more “social” day at work, a large relatively informal gathering at the region office, most of the week at work was the week from Hell.  Well, not really, but it was busy and there were some not so good parts.  Hopefully I’ll return Monday well rested and ready to get back into it.

I came down to the Cape right after work on Tuesday.  Being at the Region Office put me over a third of the way here, so…  Also, I have my home set up as a telecommuting office, so no problems.  I was able to get out on the kayak after work on Wednesday and Thursday, made it to the beach with the dogs on Friday and did some walks in the woods.  I usually go to Chapin Beach on Saturday mornings, but because of the threat of rain, I took my walk in the woods.  I did see an immature eagle this morning, but I didn’t get any photos. Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice mug of very strong Sumatra/French Roast mix.  Perhaps a cuppa tea is your cup of tea. Or perhaps..  After we get the cup, I am going to insist we go outside.  The house feels stuffy.  I’ve removed the plastic from some of the windows and so it is getting better.  It is gorgeous outside.  Still a little cool.  I walked the dogs with shorts and a short sleeve shirt and felt cool when hit by a breeze, but I was not cold!  Oh, where are we?  Some of you may recognize that cup and synthesizer as being in New Hampshire.  Note – I may do a photo shoot so I have more than one New Hampshire photo.  I’ll also do a winter shoot next year – my coffee cup in a huge snow drift, perhaps?  We’ll see….

It is Spring!  After a nice springlike week, we had a couple of almost cold days.  I’m talking 45 F (7 C) and raining.  But then it warmed up.  It was over 90F (32 C) on Wednesday and almost reached 90 (30+) on Thursday before a rainstorm lowered the temperatures.  For the next week it looks like the highs will be in the high 60s to the mid 70s (low 20s C).  One thing about the warm week is the vegetation.  Out of nowhere everything started to bloom.  The trees went from nothing to buds to leaves in a week.  Wednesday everything was bare.  Friday everything was leafy green.  It is a riot of vegetation out there! If We Were Having Coffee on the 28th of April, 2018

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you some type of beverage. Does that sound odd?  Well, it is now evening, and I for one would be up all night if I had any coffee right now.  It’s getting a little cool out, but I might light a fire in the fire pit tonight to start getting rid of some of the dead branches.  We have piles of them from all of the storms we had in March. And where are we?  Some of you may recognize the Beatles mugs as being on Cape Cod.

In a semi-last minute decision I decided to take this last week off of work.  I didn’t have any plans, I just needed a break.  I stayed in New Hampshire (NH) until Tuesday evening and then drove down here to Cape Cod.  In NH I did some light hiking.  I live in a beautiful area with a lot of waterfalls within a 10 minute drive.  OK, some of them are then an hour or two walk, but…  The weather was great and I enjoyed being out in it.  And I discovered a “new” waterfall that is just off of the road when I drive to one of the nicer “gentle” hiking areas close by.  See the photo below.

It rained all day Wednesday.  I did get out a little, but not much.  I guess a lazy day on occasion is nice.  Thursday started wet and cool, but turned into a beautiful day.  Friday was nice until noon and then it cooled down and was wet in the evening.  Today was great.  In fact, it was so nice I am just now sitting down to write this.

Let’s see, today I started the day with a long walk at Chapin Beach.  I then went kayaking.  I then took a walk in the woods at Bells Neck.  And in the later afternoon I took the dogs to West Dennis beach to play.  Of course I had the dogs out back to play (or laze in the sun) a few times and did a few walks with them.  In other words, I didn’t stop today.  Until now.

I think I got a few good osprey photos on Thursday.  I’m talking the birds hitting the water or lifting out of the water with a fish.  I also saw a few loons, which I rarely see here on Cape Cod.

I’m driving back to NH early in the morning.  And then Monday I return to reality.  (I don’t want to go back!)

Thanks for stopping by!  It was nice chatting.  If you have a coffee chat I will try to stop by for a visit, but it might be late this evening or tomorrow.  or Monday.

The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived!  Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share.  This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in!  Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory :)

Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice mug of a strong French Roast/Sumatra Roast blend, a cuppa tea of other beverage.  The sun is out!  It is relatively warm and going to get a little warmer!  So we may have to make this short – the world is calling, no, screaming my name, right now.  And where in the world are we?  Some of you may recognize the photo as being in New Hampshire.

First weather.  It was cold on Sunday and didn’t really warm up the way it was supposed to, it just stayed cold. The rain was supposed to hit in the evening and warm thing up, but it hit overnight and left two or three inches of slushy white stuff.  All though it rained hard all day Monday, the snow didn’t go away, just got messier.  It was a little warmer the rest of the week, but it was mostly cloudy so felt cold.  It also snowed a little on Thursday morning.  The ground was coated for a few hours.  Yesterday was warmer (50 F/10 C), but because of the clouds and wind it felt frigid.  today though…  And the forecast…  We may have Spring yet!

And I did see daffodils.  Here is the proof: Continue reading

If We Were Having Coffee on the 14th of April, 2018

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea, or other beverage.  It’s an odd day.  Cool but not cold.  It started sunny and felt great, but it is now cloudy and feels cooler, even though the temperature has gone up a degree or two.  Where are we?  Some of you may recognize that photo as belonging on Cape Cod.

I guess the place to start talking about the week is saying that I was sick.  I don’t get sick often.  It started with a scratch throat on Monday evening.  Tuesday it was worse, and worsened even more during the day.  I couldn’t get comfortable that night and slept like $#!&.  Wednesday I felt pretty awful.  I wasn’t sure if it was from being sick or from not sleeping well since Friday.  Most likely a bit of both.  Again, it worsened as the day progressed and so I decided not to do the three hour drive down here, to Cape Cod.  Good news is I slept OK Wednesday night and so felt better Thursday.  I did drive down here Thursday evening.  Being in bed without various animals keeping me up, I slept even better Thursday night and felt even better Friday.  By Friday evening my throat was a little scratchy again, but I slept pretty good, even though dogs did join me (no cat keeping me up, though).  Today I feel much better, though my throat is still not 100%. Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in. It’s still cold out there, and despite the sun, it doesn’t look like it it will get too warm today, more like a mid-March day than an early April one.  But after this week…  More on that later.  For now I’ll get you a nice mug of very strong Sumatra roast, a cuppa tea, hot cocoa or other beverage.  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize the mug as coming from Ireland New Hampshire (where is the mug now, not where it came from).

OK, back to the weather.  It snowed on Monday.  Not as much as farther south of us.  Yes, that sounds odd.  The snow didn’t last long, but it did snow.  It was supposed to warm up significantly by Wednesday.  Tuesday wasn’t as warm as it was supposed to be and Wednesday was cold and wet.  Finally, at 5 PM, the sun came out and it warmed up, only for the temperature to fall drastically over night.  The temperature fall wasn’t helped by the super strong north winds.  One of my neighbors lost a temporary structure.  I saw other damage.  Thursday was colder than most days this February, as was Friday.  And it snowed again on Friday!  Not a lot, but there the ground is still covered!  When is Spring really going to arrive? If We Were Having Coffee on the 31st of March, 2018

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea (various kinds) or other beverage.  It is still just a little cool and there and the wind is strong, but it is looking like a beautiful day!  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize the Beatles mugs as being on Cape Cod.

I have been out a little this morning.  I’ve played with the dogs twice – they love being out!  The run, fight, chase each other, ask me to throw stuff for them and then run some more, before finding a nice piece of wood to chew on while sitting in the warm sun.  I also went down the the beach.  It was cool and very windy, but nice.  On the way to the beach I was stopped in a little traffic jam.  A bunch of locals were crossing the road.  Overall there were about 30 of them.  They weren’t in any hurry and seemed to get irate if you tried to rush them.  I stopped and took some pictures.  Most of them ignored my, though a handful yelled at me in chorus whenever I turned their way.  They said “Gooblegobblegooblegooblegooble!”  Here is a picture of some of them strutting their stuff: Continue reading

Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice steaming mug of a strong Sumatra roast, a cuppa tea (many varieties), a mug of hot cocoa or other beverage.  It looks like it is going to be a lovely early Spring day out there.  Perhaps a little cool and too much snow on the ground, but sunny and, well, Spring.  Where are we?  Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as coming from Ireland New Hampshire.  Yes, I know, three weeks in a row.

Why am I in New Hampshire when I promised to be on Cap Cod?  We received our fourth Nor’easter in a row this week that hit at the time I was supposed to be traveling.  Up here in NH it was pretty much a non-event, but there was snow on the road on the way down.  I just didn’t want to risk it, so I wimped out.

This week I wrote a 15K story (novella?) that I’d been planning for a while.  I am a 100% panster.  Usually.  But I did do a little background work on this.  If I can bank it into shape you will see it in the short story book I plan on releasing in the late Autumn. Continue reading

If We Were Having Coffee on the 17th of March, 2018

Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome.  Come in out of the cold and I’ll get you a nice steaming mug of very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa piping hot tea or perhaps some hot cocoa.  It seems that winter has returned.  Actually, it was cold last night and won’t get very warm today, but it will be the next few days that will be the return of January.  I’m talking 8 F/ -13 C.  The good news is that they have removed the next Nor’easter, set for Wednesday, off of the forecast.  I hope it stays gone!  So where are we?  Some of you may realize by the photo that we are in New Hampshire again today.

So we had another storm on Tuesday.  Yep, another 18 inches of snow.  There was a dusting over night into Thursday.  I think we’ve had more snow in March than the rest of the winter combined.  Hopefully that’s the end.

Work was pretty busy.  A lot going on as usual. Continue reading
