If We Were Having Coffee on the 16th of December

Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a piping hot mug of very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other warm beverage.  Baby, it’s cold outside!  Yes, that song, is playing in the background as I write, but it is cold.  Frigid.  It has been for days and will be for days more.  This is late January weather.  And not just any late January, but a cold snap in January.  Brrrrr.  Yet flowers are blooming!!  In the single digits F (about -15C).  With snow and ice.  Spring flowers. Forsythia.

Forsythia in the snow

And were is this strange weather happening?  Some of you may recognize the photo at the top of that cool Moog synthesizer as being in New Hampshire.

Last week I said I was going to do some drawing.  Well, here it is, a drawing of the Firstborn from my book The Fireborn.  (I colorized the drawing on the computer). Continue reading

If We Were Having Coffee on the 9th of December, 2017

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in out of the cold drizzle.  At least it isn’t snowing, though I guess it is on “the mainland”.  I’ll get you a nice mug of very strong Sumatra Roast or a cuppa tea or other warm beverage to take the chill off.  And where are we?  Those who have joined my Coffee Shares in the past may recognize that stack of Beatles mugs as living on Cape Cod.

Thinking of Beatles, I’ve been listening to the Beatles over the last two days.  You see, yesterday was December 8.  Google it.  Yes, one of the saddest days in musical history, when the man who wanted us to give peace a chance had his life ended in violence.  Right now “All You Need is Love” is playing very loudly as I type. Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of very strong French Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea, or other warm beverage.  It is a bit chilly out there right now.  It will get seasonably warm today, so still sweater weather, but not awful. Oh yes, were am I?  By the photo at the top some of you may know we are in New Hampshire this week.

I will admit that it was difficult going to work on Monday!  I wanted my little vacation to go on forever!  I did go in, and it was a very busy week.  It will continue to be busy for the foreseeable future.  It may get worse!  In ways it beats not having enough to do!  On the other hand, when I have a few minutes of free time at work, I can sneak in a little blogging.  I have not been able to sneak in even a minute recently…

Yes, my blogging slowdown that I started over two months ago is still going on.  My stats are even farther down, on a day to day basis, than September or October.  If I don’t do something, 2018 will be back to someplace between my 2014 and 2015 level.  Sigh.  I just don’t have time, so stats will be stats….  Life takes precedence over blogging. If We Were Having Coffee on the 25th of November

Hello!  Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other beverage.  It is a bright sunny day, with blue, blue sk8ies.  It is relatively warm, given the location and the time of year.  And what is the location?  Some of you may recognize that photo at the top as being taken in my cottage on Cape Cod. (edit – Ooops, if I mention a photo, I guess i should include it!)

This was Thanksgiving week here in the US.  I only worked Monday and Tuesday.  I drove down here Tuesday night, so most of the week was at the “vacation home”.  And for the most part , that was it.  It has been a very relaxing week.  I have read, studied, walked on the beach, walked in the woods, gone for a run on the bike path, kayaked, spend a huge amount of time supervising “dog play” in the back yard (they love it!), and, well, just doing nothing.

One big highlight was seeing a deer on the beach.  I had Idina with me.  She didn’t see the deer, but when I brought her to the tracks, she did not want to do anything but sniff.  She followed the trail till the place where the deer jumped up a dune/cliff, then the other way down the beach.  I finally drug her away. Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Brrrr…  Come in out of the cold and I’ll get a large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other warm beverage.  After it went from late summer to mid winter a week or two ago, it has stayed winter.  Well, no.  We had the cold, dark, drizzly days of November.  If it were January, we’d have a few feet of snow…  And where are we this week?  Some of you may recognize the photo of that synth at the top as living in New Hampshire.

Wow, what a week.  The worst part about it is that I don’t remember a thing! Continue reading

If We Were Having Coffee on the 11th of November, 2017

Hello and Welcome!  Come in out of the cold and I’ll get you a nice large mug of strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other warm beverage.  You’ll need it!  Summer seemed to stretch into late fall this year, and then, bam! it is winter.  It is very windy and cold today.  I can hear the roar as I write.  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize that stack of Beatles mugs as being on Cape Cod.

An odd week.  I was very busy all week.  I did get a lot done, but it seems I left even more undone.  Isn’t that the way it always goes? Work?  Busy!  Home?  Busy!  Life?  Busy!  I haven’t had time to do anything for myself.

On a similar subject, I had thought that the blogging slowdown I had started in September was coming to an end, but it came back.  One of the things is, I don’t have time to read other people’s blogs.  This is a social media.  Typically, when I am in the full swing of blogging, I spend about 10 or 15 minutes reading for every minute I put into writing and answering comments on my blog.  I haven’t had time to write let alone read, and if I do want to write, i feel like a hypocrite to expect people to read my blog if I am not going out and reading others.

Oh well, I’ll figure it out. Continue reading

Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in!  It is cool and there is a whiff of November in the air.  The sky is November grey, that special bland color that we only see this time of year, and there is a bit of a bite to the air, though it is warmer than yesterday and tomorrow will be warmer still.  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being in New Hampshire.

As you may know, I haven’t been doing the Coffee Share for a while, so it is odd picking it back up.  Also, I like doing it Saturday morning, but I was really busy yesterday.  I am actually super busy today, but decided to take some time out.

Busy doing what?  Mostly winterizing.  We had to replace the hot water heaters, and to do so I opened a “door” into the basement that I have been trying to keep shut since we moved in.  Well, that double door (inside and out) was shot.  So I’ve been repairing it and trying to make it a little more winter-proof.  I have also started to put plastic on the windows.  There is getting the sweaters and turtlenecks out (I wore my first turtleneck of the year yesterday!) and putting away shorts and things.  There is cleaning and repair and other such stuff. If We Were Having Coffee on the 28th of October, 2017!

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or some other beverage.  It was cool early this morning, but has been warming up.  I think it is warmer out than in, which isn’t saying much – the house is pretty cold!  And where are we today?  Some of you may recognize the mugs at the top as belong to the cottage on Cape Cod.

It’s been a while!  I started a little blogging slowdown about two months ago.  I am still in it…  I went from over a dozen posts a week to three or four.  I also stopped posted on weekends.  So it has been about two months since a Coffee Share post.  Unfortunately, I think the Coffee Share is no more.  I still see a sprinkling of “If We Were Having Coffee” posts, but I don’t see a link up.  I post so little about me, the coffee posts are one of the few places that I can do it.  So I guess I’ll start back up again, but as a Coffee Post, not a Coffee Share.

When I first started doing a Coffee Post about four (4!) years ago, I used them as a “what I blogged about last week” post.  I decided to drop that and just talk about my week.

So what have I been up to?  Oh, too much to tell!  Mostly work.  But some fun.  Anyway, I think this little “Turn the lights back on, start a fire in the fireplace, put a kettle on” post will be pretty short. Continue reading

Moog and Morning Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of a very strong French Sumatra Roast!  If you’d rather, I have a variety of tea, though I prefer just back tea, like English Breakfast or something.  It is cool with a bit of an autumn nip to the air, but it will warm up nicely.  Later this week we will have some warmer weather.  The fall nip though – the trees are already changing!  And the Blackeyed Susans are mostly gone!  The sometimes last until November!  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize the picture of that sexy Moog synthesizer as being taken in New Hampshire.

I know I said about million times that I was on Cape Cod for my end of summer vacation last week.  So this week was a week of return.  I returned to New Hampshire and did stuff around the house.  I returned to work and caught up with all of the work.  I returned to some of the works I had in progress. I returned to my exercise routine (still getting back into it…)

But with all of these returns, I can’t actually think of a lot that I did. Continue reading

If We Were Having Coffee on the 2nd of September, 2017

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of a strong French Roast, a cuppa tea or some other beverage.  Actually, I’m a lot later than usual, and it is lunch time.  So there are a wide variety of beverages available.  It’s a beautiful day outside, if a little cool.  September brought mid-fall with it!  But still, the sun is shining and it is gorgeous.  Maybe we can sit in the back yard as we chat.  Oh yes, in case you were wondering and didn’t know my little key for photos, that stack of Beatles mugs up at the top means that I am still on Cape Cod.

This week is my typical end of summer vacation.  Even before I bought the cottage down here, the last week of August (sometimes the first week of September) is always a week that I spend down here.  And for almost a decade my parents have joined me down here.  It’s a nice little end of summer get away, even if it is to a place i go all of the time.

Besides visiting with my parents, and things like that, I did some of the typical Cape Cod stuff.  I spent some time on the kayak, walked on the beach, took long walks in the woods, played with the puppies, etc.  I also relaxed, did a little bit of writing, talked to some people and stuff like that.  So it’s been a nice week.
