The next day after St. Mary’s Glacier, we headed north again but this time passed by Boulder and drove to the Rocky Mountain National Park. After a few stops, we did a hike up to Fern Falls. Although the round trip should have been short, the late hour of arrival made it so the round trip hike was over 8 miles/13 km. Continue reading →
I spent a few days in Colorado earlier this month. As I went through all of the photos, I decided I needed to divide them in half. OK, the photos really weren’t since the second half has more, but the days were. (part 2)
On our first full day we went to Boulder. Our first stop was at NCAR, a really high profile weather station. Besides looking around the exhibits, which are aimed more at children, we walked a bit outside.
We then went into town and shopped for a while. We then stopped at Chautuaqua Park for a short walk before heading back to the Denver area. Continue reading →
Since I need to go through all of the photos I took in Colorado and I know I’ll be taking 1000 more photos at the end of the month, so I decided to edit some photos I took the last weekend in July when I was down on Cape Cod. This was a short trip to the cottage, so not tons of photos, but a couple of pretty good ones. Or at least I like them ;)
Not a great photo, but I thought it was cool to see a bunch of seal off of Chapin Beach (in the full photo there are about a dozen others stretched out in a line). Continue reading →
I was on Cape Cod for a week in late June of this year. As usual, I took a ton of photos. I finally got a chance to dig through them. There were just too many ;) The hard part was weeding them out and picking my favorites. Not always the best. For instance, I like this Osprey with a stick:
Not as good as the photo at the top of the page, but I like the stick. I actually took a few photos of osprey with sticks, and some with fish, but most didn’t come out very well. Continue reading →
I spent a few days in Ohio back in early June. This is a yearly trip to visit family. And that’s what most of it was about – visiting. Of course, part of the visiting where the “eagle hunts” with my father. We did two of them: one to McGee Marsh and the other, more local to my parents, to Old Woman’s creek.
Even though we saw a lot of the same types of things as usual, there were a few special things. Some I didn’t notice until I was looking at the photos.
I took quite a few pictures of a great Blue Heron in Lake Erie out at McGee. Later I discovered that a snapping turtle was right next to the bird. I can see the head in almost a dozen photos. Here is one. Can you see it? Continue reading →
Something new and Different, some photos from Cape Cod! The weather wasn’t great so I didn’t make it out a lot, but i do like some of these. Also still getting used to the new camera. We’ll get there with it.
One I point to point out because the photo itself isn’t great, but I love the subject. Look at the size of that fish this osprey has! And look at the crow. Soon a couple of other crows joined it. They came closer and closer to the osprey. I think the osprey finally ate the fish. but I didn’t see it happen. Continue reading →
I always post a lot of photos from Cape Cod, and have done a late April post every year. I wasn’t 100% happy with my late April photos this year, but I am a bit happier with the ones I took in mid May.
There are several nice little hikes close to my (New Hampshire) house. I’m talking within 2 or 3 miles (under 5 km). There are some more mountainous hikes within 10 miles (15 km). I don’t take advantage of these trails as much as I used to or as much as I should. I’m going to try to change that…
One of them is a trail up Purgatory Brook (Milford and Mt. Vernon, NH) that hits three larger (not huge) waterfalls and a handful of smaller falls, including, in the wet weather, a stream that cascades down the steep valley into the brook. This is a very pretty hike. Last autumn I rediscovered it when my brother came to visit. I used photos of the hike in several posts, including this one. In early February I did another short hike (not seeing the upper two waterfalls) and posted about it here.
A little over a week ago I revisited it. One of the reasons I wanted to go was that I had just picked up a new camera and wanted to field test it. Continue reading →
Every year I do a short “Spring Break” on Cape Cod and every year I do a photo post when I get back. I feel a little bad this year, because I took so few good photos, but I’m going to post some anyway.
From my Weekly Smile last week:
I took a short vacation at the end of last week. yes, I only visited my cottage on Cape Cod, which I typically do a couple of times a month, but I took time off of work. Continue reading →
