Cape Cod in Late April Part 2

A couple of loons

Last Monday I posted a bunch of photos I took of Osprey.  All of these photos were taken in an hour.  I was on Cape Cod on a “stay-cation” at my cottage for four days without any work.  So what did I do for the other three days, 23 hours?  Well, here are some more photos ;)

Swan on Swan Pond

I have seen very few loon on The Cape.  This time I saw several on two different bodies of water.  I saw as many as three together and often saw two.  I didn’t hear that call they make.  Last year in Maine, at dusk, I sat and listened to loons call.  It is a magical sound…  However, at the end of April on Cape Cod, I did hear them “talk”.  They made sounds back and forth.  Very cool, if not quite the chilling call. Osprey, Cape Cod, Late April 2018

osprey

I spent a chunk of the last week in April on Cape Cod.  On one of my walks down a Bell’s Neck in Harwich I watched about a half a dozen osprey hunt/fish.  I took well over 200 photos!  The sky was awful – it was cloudy and about noon.

Heres looking at you

My camera also did a weird thing in its focusing and exposure.  I have noticed that occasionally some settings will seem to change randomly.  Long and short, the exposures were awful for anything not pointing at the water.  The sun did eventually come out and a couple of osprey flew by, so I have a couple of “sunny photos”. “New” Waterfall

There are many streams and rivers in and around Wilton, New Hampshire.  Since Wilton is also on the edge of the bigger hills of southern NH, there are several waterfalls.

Just a few miles from my house there is a very pretty falls that everyone knows about and visits.  Actually, I haven’t been in a few years, but I used to go all of the time.  Here is an older photo of it taken in early winter (yes, that is snow).

A little farther out, and just over the border into Mt. Vernon and Milford, is Purgatory Brook with the three main Purgatory Falls, Upper, Middle and Lower, plus many pretty smaller falls.  Last year I did a post on this beautiful hike.  Here is a photo from Monday. Continue reading

Water and Such – Cape April 2018

Foggy Morning

The last couple of times I visited cape Cod I took quite a few photos.  I decided to divide them out into four posts:

Osprey
Hawks and Eagles
Ducks, Geese and Swan
Turkey and Other Birds
Water and Such

This post is about all of those things that didn’t make it in before.

Remember the photo of the egret I posted last time?  I told you to look at its feet.  Well, here is a version with less of a crop.  See them? Continue reading

Turkey and Others – March and April 2018

Three Turkeys

The last couple of times I visited cape Cod I took quite a few photos.  I decided to divide them out into four posts:

Osprey
Hawks and Eagles
Ducks, Geese and Swan
Turkey and Other Birds
Water and Such

This post is about Turkey but with a couple of others thrown in.

A week ago I put up a joke post about space aliens.  Of course the punch line was that they were wild turkey.  Look at those Blue Meany faces!  Continue reading

Ducks, Swans and Geese – Cape Cod April 2018

Male Bafflehead duck

The last couple of times I visited cape Cod I took quite a few photos.  I decided to divide them out into four posts:

Osprey
Hawks and Eagles
Ducks, Geese and Swan
Turkey and Other Birds
Water and Such

This post is about ducks and things of that nature.

Ducks are pretty common.  Mot just that, but there are many types of ducks.  The most common through most of the year are the mallards.  Everyone knows them.  We take them for granted, but they are quite pretty.  Here are some mallards, though this is an older photo. Continue reading

Osprey – Early April, 2018

Osprey in Flight

I have not done a photo post in ages.  I used to do one a week.  I’ve been caught up in other things and actually have over 1000 photos from August 2017 – December 2017 that I have not even looked at.  It’s hard to go back, but I decided to go through all of photos I took this winter and early spring.  Almost all of the photos were from the last two trips to Cape Cod – last weekend (around April 14) and around March 31.

I decided to do four posts.  I will make the links “hot” as I put up each new post.

Hawks and Eagles
Ducks, Geese and Swan

Aliens!

Turkey Head

I was out the other day and came face to face with some aliens.  Really!  They were walking around the village of Dennis as if they owned the place.  An invasion fleet, I’m sure.  Yep, I came face to face with them, and they didn’t flinch.

And talking faces, they had blue faces.  Blue!  Can you imagine?  I mean, yes, we see blue faces in Sci-Fi, like some of the characters in the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie.  But how often do you come across real blue guys here on Earth?

Turkey head 2

And i think this guy had a trunk or something.  I mean, what is that thing?  Maybe a huge nose?  Here is another picture, hopefully better than the first.

What do you think?  An alien? Continue reading
