The Weekly Smile for 4/20/2020 #weeklysmile

weeklysmile2a

I have a big smile, but first a mini-smile – I did not go on the Internet at all yesterday.  No social media.  No news.  Nothing.  Best break I have had in ages!  I need to do it again soon…

OK, so the bigger smile – music.  Have you seen any of those in-home concerts lately?  A lot of big names have been giving them, as well as up and comings.  I saw a bit of a live concert from fellow blogger, and excellent soprano, Charlotte Hoather, the other day.  It was great, until their feed was interrupted.  Still, glad I caught it!

Of course, there was the big on: the One World: Together At Home concert (the link goes to an 8 hour video ;) ).  I have only seen a few clips and photos so far, but the entire idea was great.  Everybody was there!  Stevie Wonder did a great tribute to the late Bill Withers with his song “Lean on Me”.  Taylor Swift did a a super personal song about worry for a sick loved one.  Lady Gaga, who helped make this come true did the song Smile. Many others, from The Rollign Stones and Paul McCartney to Billie Eilish, performed.  Here is an article on BBC.

Isn’t it great that the world is singing together?

My smile this week is about all of the performers sharing their music from their own homes.

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small.  Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile!  Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.

You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.

Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

It is important to take a break from it all. I’ve been a news junkie for most of my life, so that part is difficult (I only READ the news, though). And, well, I kind of played great music this weekend. OK, I did a parody of some great music. I recorded a Covid-19 themed spoof of Yesterday yesterday. I spent all day either outside, or playing music (hands and throat), so no time for anything else

I think they went even longer than that… I believe the part of the show that was televised and not just youtube was the 2 hour segment you saw. What I’m watching doesn’t have Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon hosting, that come later.

It is like decluttering…. I am a news junkie, so that part is hard, but social media is also a bit of an addiction… The bits of the One World concert I’ve seen so far have been great! I watched a few favs and now have that 8 hour video playing in the background.

I like the thought of singing together over the internet. I saw a version of “What the World Needs Now” done by students from Berklee a few weeks ago. I’m not much of a musician, but I thought it was very nicely done. It is good to realize that one doesn’t have to have concerts in a hall.

I try to be off the internet every now and then as well. It is an easy change of perspective to make that can be refreshing.
