Early Man

Mammoth

It was a gorgeous day. The sky was that dark blue that is reserved for only the nicest of autumn days. A herd of deer foraged in the meadow overlooking the glacial stream. The clear water of the stream sparkled like diamonds in the warm sun. Birds flitted back and forth, from one shrub to the other. In the distance the dark green blur of the boreal forest could be made out in the distance.

How could anyone be unhappy on such a day?

But Dr. Stevens was unhappy; very unhappy.

“A few measly thousand years for the first ones to arrive from Asia, but I arrived early,” he muttered. “Too early. And…”

Through the voice of the rushing water and the singing of the birds Dr. Stevens heard and felt a deep rumble. He sighed and turned to look, knowing what he’d see.

The herd of mammoth were on the move again, once more trampling over the remains of his destroyed time machine.

I wanted inspiration for a new story, so I picked an old drawing at random. Here it is :)

And the fun is the key word…and I thought of you when I added two Calvin comics to the end of my Sunday post today!
Had Calvin on the mind for the “wheels” theme but could not really find the right wheels one – almost asked you because you know the comics so well
But then it was a simple little post and wanted to get it out there – but just advance notice – if I ever do need a Calvin and Hobbes comic for something important – I will be shooting you an email – cool?

I was off line most of Sunday so haven’t seen it yet. Sure, send me an email, but if you don’t get a reply right away, it has nothing to do with you – when I said I was off line most of the day yesterday, that included my phone ;) So no email…

yes- I know you are the outdoors man! hah – and those boundaries – and making it a habit to stay outside – well so good for so many things.
yesterday I forced myself to walk with the hubs.
woke from a nap – so was groggy – had two hard yoga class this week (not cardio hard – but a lady that gives good alignment via gentle yoga and works certain parts) and so was sore
                then it was really hot
so it was weird, Trent, it was like awesome to be out on a sunny September afternoon – walking for the body health – but I was miserable at the same time – hahha
and grabbed sneakers that I bought last December and only wore once or twice – so that sucked too as the right one did not feel right.
then we took a new path and found the sidewalk ended so we were on uneven terrain for a while – all good – but in those sneakers – well…
came home sweaty and miserable – which is not usually the case after a small ol walk – lol

lol, there’s no such thing as a bad walk ;) It sounds like you need to get off trail more often and get used to it. A little more seriously, I know there are people who go out and are very uncomfortable so they don’t do it again. I know that’s not you, but when you see how many people don’t really move enough. Oh well. I should probably start yoga again. I stay super active, so not as important, but that balance thing again. Another dimension in staying healthy.

Thank you Trent… I truly am new to walking outdoors (indoor biking and treadmill) although for years we walked the dogs but that was very routine – and so yeah… do need to get used to uneven terrain – but the right shoes are key… and think I was a little sick – if that makes sense…

Shoes are very important. I need very flexible shoes. Shoes that are too stick give me a headache when I walk. Of course, maybe a little different in extreme terrain where support is needed, but then, most would call the area where I play with my dogs “extreme terrain” ;)

Yeah -you are seasoned with walks and terrain! And I hope to be – I have good walking Sneakers but grabbed those last minute – never again
                      – and did I tell you how awful the shorts were on the walk! They were biking shorts with a bit of reflective trim (with the seat pad not in) thought that would be nice for the walk – but they fit wrong – and I should have worn a tank top cos it was so hot! See? Horrible walk – but had perks – like blood flow – bone health – sunshine – fresh air-etc!
And guess what – tonight we took a 70 minute walk! More on that later – grabbed a few pics ;)
And had the right shoes for the city terrain

And your dogs are lucky to have an owner who loved the great outdoors –

Glad you had a good walk. I’m assuming a lot cooler. I’m not surprised you got some photos :) Yeah, when it is warm I like loose fitting cloths, so bike shorts wold not do it for me. I wear silk shirts pretty much anytime I don’t have to wear a turtleneck. They work when it is coll, but they also work when it is very hot – it breaths unlike any other material.

I actually think of you wearing some of those button up Hawaiian kind of shirts in summer and turtlenecks in winter! That is my take on Trent! Now I’ll add in silk.
And the shorts were actually these loose bike shorts that are from
Land’s End. They were clearance so I actually bought them for walking outdoors (the inner pads come out and they really are a cool fashion idea – amd the shorts are cool as shorts without the pads- but did not fit “me” right – so in the goodwill bag they will go. And not a waste of money cos that is the fun of talking a chance on clearance items! I also was hoping the material would be super soft – that happened with some khaki capris I had about ten years ago – felt like – um… like silk! Ha.
And hope your Friday is going well!!

Those Hawaiian style shirts are all silk shirts. Most don’t have an over the top pattern.

Friday is going well so far – on lunch break, but still working, just checking the blog as I eat :) I hope you have a great weekend.
