The Weekly Smile July 15, 2019 #weeklysmile

It’s been a while, but the time has been filled with smiles :)  Not that there were not any dark times in the last few weeks nor any worries – there were plenty of both!  But there were a lot of smiles.  For this post, I will talk a little bit about my week in Ohio to visit family.

Every year my immediately family meets for a bit of a reunion.  Usually we hold this over Memorial Day weekend (the last weekend in May for non-US friends), but we couldn’t do it at that time this year, so we chose the week of the 4th of July, Independence Day for my US friends.  Most of us were there at some time or another over several days.  Besides family, I also met up with an old friend for most of the Day on the 3rd.

My family lives close to Lake Erie, so a lot of time was spent on or near the lake.

Not just beaches and shore line, there is a very cool estuary, Old Woman’s Creek (OWC), that was explored by foot and canoe – I talked to a young woman working at the visitor’s center and she told me about the paddle, nothing required for us to bring, and I signed up immediately.  As a note, this is the place where I always take the eagle pictures that I have posted the last few years.  I did see a few eagles, but not many.  Perhaps photos will follow….  Besides OWC, there is also a park on the Vermilion river, Mill Hollow, where I always spend a lot of time.

On the 4th we visited the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra, Blossom Music Center, and saw the Cleveland Orchestra’s summer concert band.  They were very good and, thankfully, did a lot more than just Sousa marches. There was an impressive fireworks display at the end of the concert.

I think the photo below looks like Nuclear Armageddon ;)

One of my nephews is interested in Oberlin College, so I took the campus tour and visited their fabulous art museum.  On the theme of art, a niece has a friend who had artwork in a gallery.  It was very good – I was impressed with his talent.

And then there was just the typical family/holiday stuff like cook outs and such.

My smile this week is visiting family in Ohio.

What made you smile?

****

A reminder that since i was out and missed last week’s smile, there is no smile recap.  There will be one next week :)

***

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small.  Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile!  Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.

You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.

Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

I’m not sure why, but I couldn’t comment on your post. This has happened on a few other blogs today, but not all of them. Anyway, sounds like a cool launch. It has been years since I’ve seen a barbershop quartet, but I do enjoy them.

Odd – one thing is,every time I had issues it was when I followed the link from my notifications. For the other one, I did it four or five times with the same results every time. I guess I need to go to the page a different way if I want to comment.

Hmm, I can’t comment on your site. I filled in all of the info it asked for, but… Anyway, cool that you’ve hit 25K. Even if you lower your goal, you should still keep pushing and see how many words you can hit.

I can’t imagine what info you were asked to fill out. This came through, hope someone hasn’t hacked it. Thank you on the comments. I will keep going if I hit the lowered goal. I will have more incentive then. I have been writing and editing mainly today. So still at 25,000, but that is no mean feat as I am sure you know.

I made a thousand typos in the post and went back and correct most. I guess I missed Oberlin. Oh well, I’ll fix it now…

An outdoor concert and fireworks is a great way to celebrate the 4th. It was also family friendly for a wide age group – we had plans to see 21 Pilots, but I’m sure my 80+ year old parents would not have gone ;)
