Sitting in Gate Six

I looked at my watch.  Had it stopped?  I shook it then held it to my ear, a habit from another era.

Nothing.

The other people looked as uncomfortable as I felt.  How long were we going to be delayed?

I stood and stretched, but really couldn’t go anywhere.  My bags were too heavy to lug around the airport and I didn’t dare leave them unattended – that warning voice sounded dour.

Should I try reading again?

It was no use.

I walked to the counter and asked when we depart.

“Depart?  You’re at your destination.”

I then noticed her horns.

This is a great one Trent ! I was once stuck at the airport outside Reykjavik for 3 days due to a snowstorm..and they ran out off coffee, so people started to get slightly irritated. Food was rationed. It wasn’t safe to leave the airport, and they didn’t know for how long we were going to be stuck there. After 3 days they put us on a plane to Denmark.

Ha! I once had the experience of a flight being delayed for 6 incremental hours (ya know, half-hour, then another hour, then two more, then radio silence, then who knows …). It was late fall. One of the parents, who had two little ones to LITERALLY after, finally pulled out something from her carry on, which her preschooler put on delightedly: His ‘little devil” costume, perhaps left over from Halloween. “Feels like hell anyway,” she muttered. Everyone laughed.
To this day I think that naming it helped move the energies .. .because shortly after we boarded … :)

Moving it back by increments is the worst… That story is so funny. She was obviously the most clever person around. You may be right, naming it might have moved the energies.

“Gates of Hell” – exactly. I will try to the Elton John concert early to post my favorite, but will most likely not be able to listen to everything this week, unless it is raining – it’s summer, I need to be outside :)

Summer it is … thus why I will probably only do 2 concerts a month … We’ve seen our share of rain! Actually 11+ inches over for the year to date … that was 4-5 days ago and we’ve had 5+ inches since then!

Yeah, it has been awful rain-wise here as well. I have been seeing a lot of memes on FaceBook from my Ohio friends about the rain, like someone asking Noah where the ark was and him answering “Ohio”. Speaking of that, I will be in the state in early July, but up in the Cleveland area. I hope the rain ends by then….
