If We Were Having Coffee on the January 12, 2019

books-n-coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in out of the cold!  It is frigid out there today.  Yes, a pretty day, full of polar sunshine, but also polar air!  I’ll get you a steaming mug of coffee or a cuppa tea, a mug of hot cocoa or other warm beverage.  Brrrr, you’ll need it!  And where is it so cold?  The photo at the top is pretty new, but some of you may recognize the McDonald’s Pub mug and so know that it is in New Hampshire, and so are we.

An odd week.  I do not talk about work much, except to say that I am kept very busy and that (one of my roles) I am a program manager for a web hosting environment that gets many millions of hits a day.  I might say in my “about page”, I’m not sure, but I rarely say where I work.  For very good reason.  I am not going to say now, except to say that when I return it will take weeks to catch up…

I have been doing work around the house.

I been spending a lot more time trying to stay up with all of those blog entries – a few days I literally read blog posts for eight hours and only hit about a quarter of those posted in my Reader for those days.  How do people do it? I could spend 24 x 7 trying to keep up and still not come close, yet there are people who have liked every single post I read before I get there!

I have been getting a lot of writing done.  I have also been editing my latest book and am almost finished with the third draft (it is two novellas I did a couple of drafts each before the first draft of the book itself.)  If you don’t know anything about what I am working on, here is the blurb.

Of course there is the usual.  I have been playing with the dogs.  Exercising.  Massage.  I do not watch TV, but yesterday I watched “Eight Days a Week”, a documentary about the Beatles’ touring days.  Ironically, when people were int he house last week I put on the movie “A Hard Days Night” as background since I was sick of the news yet the dogs actually like background noise – they stay quieter and bark at the wind less if the TV is on. Also last week I watched a documentary about the British Invasion of the early 60s, which included The Beatles, of course.  So a lot of Beatles!

Well, the dogs are whining, so I need to go out and take a walk.  I really need it – I have been in front of the computer for almost three hours!  And I am still not even 1/10th of the way caught up with the blogs…. Even in the cold, frigid weather, I do have a lot scheduled for the day, so I will cut this short.

Thanks for visiting and having coffee (or whatever) with me!  I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  If you have a coffee share I will try to stop by.

The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived!  Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share.  This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in!  Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory!  (Note – it is coming back!  A lot of people have rejoined and there are plenty of new faces :) ).

I don’t have the time to read every post in my Reader either. I skip around, look for my favs, and read as many as I can. Between this, working, reading, writing and a social life (HA! what social life) there just is not enough time in the day!

    Hi Trent,
I’m back home after picking our Scouts up from the bus. They weren’t looking too worse for wear and it’s Mum who’s sporting the war wounds. They’ve had a fantastic time and have so many stories to tell, although one’s back on the computer and the other one is reorganizing her room after my cleanup.
I’ve found it hard to keep up with even my usual blog reading lately largely because I’v e been catching up with a lot of people in the real world as it’s our Summer. These real world people are also our life blood and its important to be a part of all the goings on there and being a good friend.
Hope the rest of your week goes well. We’re heading for a heat wave to hit on Friday but it’s already pretty hot. Might try to get to the beach later today.
    Best wishes,
    Ro

It is so fun talking to people in Oz and South Africa – it seems the entire southern hemisphere has been have record heat and we’ve been having record cold! Glad your scouts are back in one piece and I am not surprised that one is reorganizing your reorganization ;) Is she a teenager now (I know she is close)? If so, I can really, really understand it…

Enjoy the beach and have a great week!

I so can relate to the blog reading challenge. I follow so many awesome blogs, that I simply can’t read all of them every week. When I do visit a blog I often read more than one post though. Hey, its supposed to be fun, so let’s keep it fun ;) It sounds like you had a busy, productive week. I hope this new weeks unfolds into everything you wish for. Thanks for the coffee!

It is supposed to be fun. When it becomes work, I usually take a blogging break to recharge. But I do like a lot of blogs and the people behind them so it is nice to try. My little “experiment” last week just proved how difficult that can be!

I hope you had a great weekend and have a great week ahead! I’ll stop by later to see if you had coffee this week :)

That seems like a good strategy. I change the number, and length of posts depending on what I am doing in life. Right now I’m aiming for two posts a week, and it doesn’t feel too daunting. ave an awesome week! There’s always coffee at my place ;)

As to posting, I write very fast, so I post too many, too long posts ;) Oh well, I also do some shorter ones as well. I am over at your blog now, enjoying some tea and views of Lake Mead.

I love blogging and the interaction that occurs in this community, but the time commitment can be overwhelming. I think I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I can’t do it all, but yes, there are days when I spend hours it front of the computer screen.

Hope you are staying warm. Were you affected by the big storm this weekend? So far we still have no snow and I’m ok with that.

I agree – I would like to keep up and do enjoy they people I’ve met blogging, but I have other commitments.

This winter has been strange and in some ways a mixed blessing – the arctic cold we have been having makes the storms pass south of us. We’ve had very little snow, though a couple of times the temps have bounce to record high temperatures and then we had torrential rains followed by the temps plunging into arctic territory again. I have never seen as much ice – my driveway is completely covered.

I hope you have a good week.

I don’t know how you do even a tenth of what you already do! I can’t keep up with blogs at all, period, except during the summer, and then I lose writing time for that. Keep up the great work, though! And try to stay warm! I’ve only needed a light jacket these last few days, and even that was only at night. I even was in short sleeves at the farmer’s market yesterday!

Hope this coming week is fabulous and productive for you!

Sitting at a computer all day (well, not all day since I get up to stretch and walk as often as possible) it is easy to take breaks by reading a few posts. And when I work I eat at my computer, so… I still can’t keep up, but I decided to give it a try since I’m not working. I’ve discovered that even if I wanted to be a full time blogger, I couldn’t keep up! Oh well, back to writing…

Oh, I am waiting for light jacket weather again! It will be so nice.

      Have a great week. :)

Sometimes I do pretty good, other times… well, not so good ;) It is a commitment. I enjoy visiting most of my fellow bloggers, of course, but life is too short to be stressed about how much time you spend, or doen’t spend, on the blog.

I hope your weekend is going well :)

Hiya Trent! Hope you’re well and staying cozy!

I feel you on the blog reading! I’ve missed so much over the past year because I simply couldn’t catch up (nor did I find much time to write, but that’s another story)! I’ve really culled down my reader list simply because I have limited time and only want the blogs I truly love in there…and I still can’t keep up! Trying to do better in 2019 :-)

Hope the work catch up goes smoothly! I know exactly how it is to miss work and have to play catch up! Somedays (not often, but occasionally and only for a minute), it all makes me long for my waitress days when the work only happened in the moments you were there.

Have a great week ahead, Trent!

It is difficult to keep up, but I often take breaks from even trying. Playing catch up at work will be hard. Thinking of catch up, I didn’t see your post on linky for the coffee share last week, but I saw it today, so I’ll try to make it over to catch up :)

Hope your weekend went well and that you have a wonderful week ahead!

I think it is very difficult to stay up with reading and commenting on posts. I think most of us know and respect that we all pop in and visit when we can, and comment when we can as well. There truly aren’t enough hours in the day…

Too cold here to even let my boxer out for longer then a few minutes. Poor thing is stir crazy, as are the kids. Frost bite warning earlier in the week. It is suppose to warm up, so hopefully she can run wild in the backyard for a bit this coming week.

Great coffee post, thanks for sharing.

Despite the cold, and despite short fur, my pups have been playing pretty hard, just not for as long as they’d like. This afternoon it was still about 25, but the sun felt warm, so we did a longer walk and they loved it.

It is impossible for anyone to keep up and I do know that most understand it. This is the first time in a very long time that I tried and it really brought home how hard it is. Today I haven’t read one post, just answered comments. Oh well, I will read some later today. Maybe ;)

I hope you had a good weekend and that you have a warmer and wonderful week :)

Someone I followed a long time ago and had totally forgotten just started to post huge amounts. I haven’t unfollowed yet, but I will. Typically, if I follow someone and find that they do put out that many posts, I unfollow them ASAP.

Thanks for thinks! I will take a look.

Happy New Year Trent. It sounds as though you have hit the New Year running. I haven’t as yet managed to do anything but it is hard with house guests as you know. I’ll be making a start this week. Have a good week. We have hot temperatures here at the moment and would probably enjoy for a minute your cooler ones.

Hi Trent, I’m with you. I can’t keep up with the blogs I like either! I do my best and I think’s what matters. Also, you’re lucky that you can keep the tv on with your dogs. My dog will back at anything. He loves his peace and quiet just like me :)

I do try with the ones that I like the most, and I agree that is what matters, When I’m home alone, I try to keep the TV off most of the time, since I’m not watching it, but I notice that the dogs pay more attention to outside noises when it’s off. My little “office/studio” is as far from the TV as possible, so I don’t hear it when it is on.

I’ve seen all of the movies in the past, though it’s been a very long time since Magical Mystery Tour. They are fun.

I do watch movies on TV on occasion, but I am always busy doing something so I don’t have time to sit down and watch often.

When I am back to normal, I read at least fifty blogs each day. I comment on about half of them then just like the rest, although there are some I read and do neither for because I can’t say I “liked” the content for that day. Right now I am not reading blogs except for yours and if someone comes to visit my blog, I get back to theirs. I follow too many blogs so one thing I am going to try this week is to go through my blog roll, a few each day, read and unfollow any that I am not interested in any longer. Of course, I will probably end up following a few that come to my site this week, too! Hopefully, this is the week I begin to get back to normal with blogging.

Enjoy your “vacation” although I’m sure you are dreading the end of this whole thing because of the work it will involve to catch up after all this time!

I’m both looking forward to the end of my forced “vacation” because I do want to get back to work (and get paid ;) ), but in ways i am dreading it – I’ve had a taste of semi-retirement and like it ;) and there will be a lot to catch up on!

Thank you, I feel privileged :) I do spend a lot of time every day, except for those little slow downs and breaks, but I had never tried to read “everything!” before. It is just impossible. I have thought of weeding some out. I have dropped a few that took a turn in a direction I didn’t want to follow (i.e., what I considered fascist…), but that was like two blogs.

Anyway, I hope you are having a great weekend. I’m about to pop over and take a look at your smile for the week :)

Hi Trent, I’ve also wondered how some people can keep up with blogs. Me, I just select a few interesting people and spend the time to get to know them. The problem for me is that some bloggers I follow post 3 and 4 times a day so now I am selective. I am impressed you spent eight hours trying to catch up. When I was in hospital I gave up and just had to delete everything and start again.

I usually subscribe to blogs by email so it is easier to keep track than RSS.

*laughing* No wonder you don’t watch TV. Me neither, as when I’m not blogging I co-manage one of the largest writing forums on the net, and a literary website.

Are you disciplined and set time aside to write every day or do you just write as and when?

Usually I don’t spend 8 hours ;) I do keep busy, but I’ll have to look up your forum and website! Are there links on your blog?

I don’t like to subscribe by email because there are so many! I usually just dig through the reader, choosing the ones that are most interesting or those that I know I’ll like. Someone posting 2 or 3 times a day isn’t bad, but there are some that post 20 or 30 times! How can anyone read them all!

I hope your weekend is going well.

Likewise Trent. I don’t know how anyone with a normal job, keeps up with more than a few peer bloggers. I limit my following to just a few with the hopes that I can at least keep up with them. On the other hand, I love this community and want to be a part of it, so I’m looking for that balance.

Stay well up there in the cold and damp.

Although a lot of my favorite rock music is post-British Invasion, I think that period is fascinating. I mean, just looking at the Beatles, going from Love Me Do to Penny Lane in just a few short years – has music ever in the entire history of the world evolved so rapidly? And they were just the ones to open that door to so many great groups.

I don’t know if I could be a full time blogger for more than a few days, but, yeah, it is awful that life gets in the way of what I want to do ;)

I understand completely about not being able to get around to everyone’s site. And I finally stopped beating myself up about it. I can’t visit everyone I follow every week, nor can they visit me that often. That’s life, and we all need to just sit back and “let it be.” (Just couldn’t pass up an opportunity for that Beatles quote.) :)

This blogging business is a long and winding road… OK, not more Beatles’ quotes ;) There are times that I try to keep up with everything, but it is impossible. I do spend some time everyday on it, perhaps a couple of hours in little ten or fifteen minute snippets throughout the day, but even at that pace I have to have breaks on occasion. No obligation to visit ever post every day.

I hope you are having a good weekend :)

I’ll have a cup of “whatever” :-) as usual! You might know that wordpress doesn’t let me sign in with my blogspot identity so I can’t click on “like” anywhere but I can comment with my facebook account. So, today in France, the middle of France to be precise, I lazed around at my son’s with my grandkids. We had breakfast twice, one in the morning and one for lunch… wonder what’s for dinner! The news on various screens in the house is about the 9th Saturday of upheaval from the people wearing a vest of a certain color. Have a nice next week and merci (mare see) for whatever :-) :-)

I have several types of “whatever”, some from France, that I could break out, or perhaps look for recipes to make some of it warm ;) Two breakfasts is sometimes good. There are places around here that serve breakfast foods all day. The big news I saw from France today was about a gas explosion that killed a couple of people, though the article I read did mention the police preparing to observe gatherings of people with vests of a certain color to make sure they don’t get out of hand. I hope you enjoy the rest of the day with son and grandkids and have a wonder rest of your weekend.

I’ll have to stop by and see if you posted anything. The last time I was there, for Friday Fictioneers, it wouldn’t let me post any comments :(

Is it really scientifically true that dogs love T.V background noise? I am not much
of a T.V. fan except for chosen film or as you with documentaries.

Hi Miriam. I don’t think it is scientifically proven that the dogs love TV as background, but I have noticed that they stay a little more settled and are a little less protective if the TV is on. I would rather have silence, but that includes breaks from the dogs barking if they think they hear something outside ;)

Hi Trent – black coffee for moi.
And glad your novella drafts are unfolding.
Also – I sometimes ask the same question when I see how some
Folks are able to visit and interact with blogs – for some folks this is like a part-time job as far as hours invested- or at least like a hobby. Ya know?
And I have had different seasons – like years ago I checked in a the blogosphere nightly and would get immersed a couple of those nights. Last year – I had a different approach – it was more focused to the challenges I did and and so if I did Friday Fictioneers (a top fav) I’d spend a bit of time over a few days trying to visit All of the entries for that week. Then other times I just visit whoever is in the reader –
Also – last year I indulged in September and dedicated some off days to indulging in blogs and also posting – it was a nice change but would get “old” if I did it all the time.
Oh and now I am in a bit of a blog pause – came unexpected but was right on time.
And just checking in today – looking for some free coffee at Trent’s world!

Hi Y! Thanks for taking time from your blogging break to join me for coffee!

I typically spend a couple of hours spread through the day at five to fifteen minutes at a time reading my favorites blogs and scanning the Reader for anything interesting. I do pretty well on Friday Fictioneers for about two days and then get burned out on it. And about twice a year I have a major slowdown, occasionally even a break.

I hope you are doing well! Have a wonderful weekend.
