The Weekly Smile 10/22/2018 #weeklysmile

weeklysmile2a

Last week was the first of the new and improved Weekly Smile!  Check out the fresh new variety of sizes and colors.  Wait, wait, wait, this isn’t an old ad, is it? ;)  We had a great turn out, which made me smile.  I was little surprised since it was the first one, but not too surprised since it was actually the 89th smile, just with a 55 week pause in the middle.  Click here if you didn’t see the recap.

I have a lot to smile about this week, so it is hard to chose just one.

This was my first long weekend back on Cape Cod after over a month away, so that is great.  But I often felt that too many of my Smiles in the past were “I was on the Cape this weekend…” so I want to try something else.

I live in a small town in New Hampshire.  I have actually been in this town for 25 years!  I know a lot of people, yet I don’t.  One of my friends in town has only lived here for two years, yet it seems like she knows everyone.  She invited me to a party last night.  A triple, progressive party.  No politics where involved!  We started at one house for appetizers, progressed to another for the main course and then to a third for dessert.

It was nice.

Everyone was from the small town, most neighbors of the three hosts.  There were a handful of people I see relatively often.  And then another handful that I know but don’t see very often.  I had never met over half of the people at this party.

I’m an ultra-introvert and a tad shy, so not the biggest socializer in the world.  I’ll admit that most of the time I would rather sit at home and read a good book.  Or write one, though it is up to you to decided if it is “good book” or not ;)  All of that being said, introvert aside, this was good.  It was nice talking to people that I hadn’t seen in years.  Also nice to make some new friends.  Everyone was friendly.  A lot of the people didn’t know each other, so I wasn’t alone there.  And picking two random people and placing them together, I bet you can find something in common for them to talk about.

So I spent the evening chatting and socializing.

And not a single word about politics was heard, progressive or otherwise.

So my Smile this week is getting an old introvert out of the house to socialize all Sunday evening and meet a lot of new people :)

What did you smile about?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small.  Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile!  Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than the huge ones :)

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening.   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.

You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.

Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

“There are days I go in search of the kind, compassionate, loving and beautiful. Despite what we sometimes see on the news, FB and elsewhere, there is much more beauty in the world than ugliness, much more kindness than hate or cruelty. Perhaps we should all have a goal to make at least one person smile every day.”

Somehow (well, I really know how) I missed your weekly smile, even though I really really like the idea of a weekly smile. I don’t know why I’m so busy doing nothing in particular. Perks of retirement I guess. I’m glad you enjoyed the progressive party. My folks used to belong to a progressive dinner group…but that was different because everyone knew everyone. I know how you feel about socializing when you’re a tad shy. Me too. It’s really hard to make myself go to stuff where I don’t know many (or any) people. Usually I find it was worth it, if not necessarily fun. I’m glad you had a good time and met a few more people and got in touch with people you already knew. Next time you’ll have to be one of the hosts! That makes me feel better, to host something, be involved in the planning and then have responsibilities during the event.

Being responsible does help with these types of things. Part of my style of Introvert is that a lot of the shyness goes away if I’m working.

Glad you caught up. Hope you are having a good weekend. Retired? I guess it’s still the weekend ;)

Yay congratulations on your #weeklysmile Trent. Love that you got the introvert out and met new people – sounds like it was uplifting and gently fun. :) This is an amazing quote:

“There are days I go in search of the kind, compassionate, loving and beautiful. Despite what we sometimes see on the news, FB and elsewhere, there is much more beauty in the world than ugliness, much more kindness than hate or cruelty. Perhaps we should all have a goal to make at least one person smile every day.”

Thank you! I plan to participate in my blog post tomorrow :) . Blessings.

Thanks! That quote was what started it all – Someone was really down on FaceBook about all of the meanness, so I wrote that. It has been the main theme for this.

Looking forward to seeing your smile :)

I don’t see you as a true introvert, you are definitely an extrovert in your blog , so maybe extroverted if you are around the right type of people.
As for your books, up to now the ones I have read are really good! I know I should do reviews… anyways, anyone reading this Trent’s books are really good!

I can express myself much easier in writing than using my mouth. I am also much better as an adult who has been in the work force for quite a few years. But I am the true Introvert in that I live in my head. If I don’t talk to another person all day, I’m set. Social events, like last night, are fun, but draining. And I often sit in a quiet corner.

(Quick story – I was at a house party, didn’t know a soul. I found a quiet corner. And then Senator Lieberman, who was running for president at the time, came and stood right next to me and gave a speech to the crowd. My quiet corner turned into the center of attention!)

Anyway, I am very quiet and check most of the boxes. Except liking extreme skiing ;) And when I’m blogging or writing.

Thinking of writing, thanks! Nice to hear someone enjoys my words!

You probably mentioned it. I’ll go back and read the post guidelines before participating. I’m off for a few days this week and that makes me smile so I thought it might be fun to join in. :-)

I missed it, at least in the post. I just corrected it. The bottom portion of the post will be copied week to week so I want to get it just right – I’m still working the bugs out.
