Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast. You can also have a cuppa tea or other beverage. It is actually not that cold out, but it is damp with occasional passing showers. I want/need to get out! I think I’ll risk getting wet…. And where am I? Some may recognize the photo at the top as coming from Cape Cod. Some may also realize that this is my first post from here in over a month! I’m usually here every other week….
Anyway, a busy week. But what did I do? Hard to remember!
I did some winterizing in the house and broke down and turned on the heat. I also did a little raking. I still need to do the front yard, but… i also need to rake here, on the Cape. I brought my car to the shop for the yearly inspection and break emplacement… With my hybrids, the breaks always rust out before they wear out.
There was also work. It was busy, but for the most part there was a lot accomplished. That is always good! On Monday I gave a briefing to a group that included my manager, his manager and his manager. A little nerve wracking, but it turned out well. It was also nice that several people from several teams this week point to me as their SME (Subject Matter Expert) on a variety of subjects. Always nice.
I did some writing. I may post a few things, but maybe not. Sometimes I like to keep things off of my blog so when I publish them blog readers may have a few surprises if they read the book. In my upcoming book, Embers, there are a few stories, including a 15K word novella, that never saw my blog.
Speaking of Embers, I did a cover reveal this week:
Also this week, here on the blog, I brought back my Weekly Smile! I was a little surprised, but not surprised, at how well it was received. People seemed to be waiting for the return. We can all use a bit of positivity, can’t we? :)
Well, that’s it for now. I’m hoping to get outside, rain or not. The dogs are restless. I’m restless ;) The beach is calling! Not kayaking weather, but I will do other things.
Thanks for stopping by! If you have a coffee share, I’ll try to stop in and say “Hi!”. Have a great week ahead!
The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived! Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share. This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in! Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory!
I feel your pain about work being busy, but kudos to being (how did you put it?) the SME! Sometimes I wish people would see me that way. I may have to go back to get a higher degree for that to happen, though.
I’ll try to get in on the Smile this week. I was one of the people looking forward to it and was so busy this week that I didn’t get a chance to check it out! *sigh* I keep thinking things will calm down, but they never seem to do so.
See you around the coffee share! (Just FYI, mine’s a little long this week… since I’ve been gone for a bit.)

The good thing about my work is that except for those very rare weeks when everything is exploding on me, I only have to do a 42.5 hour work week. I’m sure you put in much more than that! I’m also in a field where, though education is important (it is every where, IMO), real world experience with the systems is even more highly rated. So you earn kudos by doing.
I hope you do find time to add a smile some week :)
I’ll stop by and see what you were up to last week soon. Now worries if it was a little long.
I hope you have a great week!

Thanks for the coffee! Great news about the Weekly Smile, would love to join in. I have a presentation this Friday to a high level audience. My manager will be doing the talking, but I’ll be there as the “SME”. Yes, nerve-wracking! I’ll be spending all week preparing. Have a great week!

Yes, I can’t stop moving. I think when I do stop, people will assume I’m dead and start shoveling the dirt on. Thanks.

Thanks for the coffee, it was absolutely delicious, as usual :) It actually says that we have a 20% chance of rain today, but I just came back from a walk to a local farmer’s market, the sun was shining from a cloud free sky, and it was 80 degrees, I don’t know about rain..I do know that I need to get back outside :) I’ve done everything that I needed to do inside, let the weekend begin!! Cheers!

The rain did stop and so I was able to take a long walk on the beach. When I returned I had to take the dogs for an even longer walk in the woods. I still need to get outside some more ;) I hope you were able to get out and have a good weekend!

Puppies need playtime – as I am just now reminded as my boxer Fiyro places a toy in my lap :)

Yes, it was good week. Not a week with something super or exciting happening, but a good one none the less.
I hope you are having a great weekend (from FB posts it looks like you are!) and have a great week ahead.

Thank you, Trent. This weekend end was rather big for us due to my Mom’s 80th birthday party yesterday. WE are having a quite day today.

SME sounds like a lot of responsibility …
It does read as though I have another book to look forward too! I am currently toying with the idea of coming through my own blog for short stories that I have written in the past and through my notebooks and bundling some of them into a book. I guess it’s a bit like blogging, we just have to jump into it…
I am glad that you restarted the #WeeklySmile this week, it was definitely the right moment for me! I don’t know if I’ll be participating in the weeks to come, but time will tell.
Have a great weekend!

SME is an nonofficial title (usually) and hopefully is more about recognition that responsibility. What it often means is being invited to meetings to give my insight into a matter as a SME.
My two books of short stories come largely from stories I’ve put up on the blog. Of course I spent a lot of time shining them up, thinking of the blog version as the first draft. I think I wrote two Christmas stories for your blog. I used one in Seasons of Imagination and am using the other in Embers. I would say that you should go for it! Dig through your notebooks and such and come up with a collection.
I’m not sure why the idea of doing the Weekly Smile again came back, but I’m glad it did! It seems to have caused a lot of smiles, which is what it is all about :) Join in if and when you can. Never any pressure :)
Have a great weekend and week ahead!

Well, I’ll keep you updated on the projects. When I read seasons of imagination, I was happy to see that you used your advent calendar story.
Enjoy your weekend and week!
We’re most likely going to Versailles on Monday (school holidays) for a day trip, and I’ll hopefully take many pictures and will have many stories to tell :)

I like the title “subject matter expert.” I am a subject matter resource, not as cool but I still enjoy the honour.
The cover for “Embers” is great. Fire pictures are so powerful.
Great coffee post. I will be weighing in with a coffee post in a couple weeks. Anyway, have a great weekend.

Thanks. yes, I do like the title “Subject Matter Expert”, and it is very cool when someone invites me to a meeting as the SME. “Subject Matter Resource” is the same thing, but not quite the same ring to it.
Thanks. Funny thing, I didn’t realize how much the colors on the cover match the colors of my last cover, the Halley Branch, until I saw them next to each other on the blog!
Looking forward when you can do a coffee share. Have a great weekend!
