If We Were Having Coffee on the Last Day of June, 2018

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast or a cuppa tea.  Actually, I just finished lunch, so maybe something cool.  It is hot and humid today, so something refreshing might be in order.  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize that Edward Gorey mug (the one with the bat) as being on Cape Cod.

This was my June Vacation.  In ways it was a stay-cation as it was at my cottage on Cape Cod, someplace i spend maybe a quarter of my time anyway.  And what is there to tell?  Long walks on the beach, swimming, kayaking, taking photographs, walking, walking/playing with dogs, eating out (twice), watching movies (twice), etc.  The same old, same old.  i do most of those things when it’s not vacation.

One thing, I had a lot of time to do stuff on the computer, but did as little as possible.  i mean, I am on vacation, why would I want to stay on the computer?  I did a little writing, including some blog posts, and a bit of reading, but I tried to stay away.  I did get a little sun-burnt yesterday.  I went swimming, walked up to the car to leave, but then thought, what the heck, I’ll swim some more.  By doing that I almost doubled my team on the beach.  I am 100% sure I would not have gotten burned if I had left when I started off.  If I go today (after smearing myself with sunscreen), I will only swim for a short time before heading back.

Thanks for visiting!  I hope you had a good week!  If you have a coffee share, I will try to hit it, but no promises.  As I said, I’ve been trying to avoid the computer.

The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived!  Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share.  This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in!  Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory :)

When I’m away on vacation, I NEVER want to write, though I will often keep notes to write about later. I do, however, love processing photographs wherever I am. Which means hauling the huge IBM machine that weighs like a couple of cinderblocks. I have not been able to find anything I can use on the Mac that will do the kind of processing I do. It is extremely frustrating.

If I’m away on vacation I can’t write a word. Well, I can, but it seems forced. But when I am on the Cape, I am at home, even if it is vacation, and I can write, but I hate doing the social media then. As far as photos, I’m over two months behind, including a trip to Ohio (lots of eagle picts) and a lot of time on the Cape. I almost want to ignore I took those several thousand photos and start over ;)

I do have an OK laptop, but it is heavy. My work laptop is light, but I use it for typical office stuff, not photography.

Any mint tea by any chance? I love that on hot days. It’s so refreshing and it remind me of the mint tea my mom used to make for us every day in the summer. Anyway, I’m glad you’ve been enjoying your vacation. I’ve enjoyed seeing the photos on FB and Instagram. I think that the sort of vacation you’ve described is an ideal one. Far too often, when we vacation, we overdo it and end up not really enjoying any one thing because we’ve got to move on to the next thing. I’m glad you enjoyed the walks and the swimming and the slower pace. I hope you didn’t get any more sunburned that you did the other day!

I may have some mint tea, I’m not sure. If not, it’s an easy thing to remedy.

I do like to go away and do things, but when I bought this cottage, every one of my vacations for years suddenly became planned… It is nice and I enjoy, so I won’t complain. I just have to take advantage of the mountains more when I am back here in NH. Oh well, thinking of that, I return to reality and work tomorrow.

      Have a great week!

(No more burn. What I have is fading pretty quickly, which it normally does if i treat it right.)

Stay-cays can be nice. I wouldn’t mind having a three month one, though there is no way I could do that. I’ll just have to wait a few years and do the real retirement thing…

I hope you had a great weekend!

I was only able to do the 3 months because I dug into the profit from the sale of my last house. I couldn’t really afford to do that, but it was either that or have a nervous breakdown at The Job From Hell.

It sounds awesome! When you choose to just do more of the stuff you usually do, when having time off, that’s kind of a receipt that you’re on the right track with your life. I bet your dogs are loving life right now :) Enjoy your weekend!

I read your post saying you don’t miss a vacation because you are doing what you want to do anyway (or something like that). Yep, I get it. I wouldn’t mind trading my day job for writing, but beyond that ;)

I hope you had a great weekend and that you have a great week ahead!

we did have rain on Thursday, but for the most part it has been nice. For the last few days Cape Cod has been 10 or 15 degrees F cooler than “the mainland”, so very nice there.

Glad you were able to get outside, sun or no. Have a great week.

hope your sunburn was not too bad – and I had a bit of tech break – it happened rather naturally with visitors here and a short trip – but I think fasting from tech is what helps me at times – such a tough call, eh?

Usually my tech breaks aren’t “official”, like your break, I’m just to busy living life! The sunburn isn’t too bad, thanks. I have a couple of creams I use that always help so it should fade away soon enough.

I hope you are doing well. Have a great rest of the weekend!

glad you have some nice creams for the sunburns you get – and for me – nothing beats good ol’ aloe….
need to get a new plant actually –
I had a huge one that lasted for years. Miss it.
and things here are well (thx) and hope the rest of your weekend goes great too)

I did use some aloe. I am back in NH and don’t have any here, but used my home made mix that is based on Shea Butter. My skin loves Shea Butter, though mostly when it is dry. The burn is almost gone.

oh good about the sunburn being gone.
and I love shea butter too – we were just in whole foods and they sell it in little tubs – looks like whipped cream – and they had samples and I forgot how awesome it is – I use many lotions but not a lot of shea – maybe need to get some….

I got a 1 pound block of raw shea butter from Amazon. I melt it and mix it with avocado oil and grape-seed oil, with just a bit of olive oil, and stir it until it is about to harden. It makes a good lotion. My skin used to bleed all winter no matter what I used. Of course, 90% of over the counter uses mineral oils, which destroys my skin. I only use it in the summer when I am in the sun too long. My skin looks good year round, no dryness, itching, rashes, and no bleeding all winter. I also use a mix of oils at the end of my showers during the winter, using a sponge to apply it – that helped the dry, constantly bleeding skin a lot, but using my homemade shea-butter-cream finished the job.

yeah – I hate mineral oil – and thanks (seriously thanks) for the recipe – I am going to try it –
                also.
do not forget to take fish oil for skin enrichment. And one I love is from Aldis (if you have that store) and I have had a few folks come back and thank me for the tip –
like one girl I met at gym she said her scalp is all healthy now after taking 3 fish oil capsules (aldis) per day for only 2 months

anyhow, I am so excited about the recipe because I have seen the amazon items and as noted – walk by the affordable containers – but never really thought about going there.
and boy do I have oils and lotions that we have tried – ha

I do take a krill oil every day. The few fish oils I tried left me tasting fish all day…. I think they just put in an aldis about 20 miles from here, but haven’t been to it (I have been to one in Ohio – my sister shops there).

well my mom hated this chain back in the days she only knew of one in SC
                    – but said she likes the newer ones.
and their fish oil is identical looking (and maybe acting) as an expensive one I buy.
Seriously Trent, I poured them out and they are identical – I wonder if they have the same manufacturer.

I am a bit jealous of your vacation/stay-cation! This week was the last week of Summer School, so this teacher is just about to start her vacation. Hopefully, I’ll get some writing done, and still manage to relax. If not, I’ll be enjoying my vacation vicariously through you!

I hope your vacation goes well! Are you off work until school starts again? I’m back to work on Monday, but I do visit Cape Cod a lot, so I will be doing some of the fun stuff on the weekends…

Yes, I have the whole month of July off, plus the first week of August. I’ll probably be working on lesson planning for my reading classes, though, while I’m still in the teacher mindset, though. I’m going to try not to spend too much time on it, but maybe just a quick outline of what I’d like to do for the first six weeks or so.

    Hi Trent.
Sounds like you are living the dream.
All that with all that beauty around you.

As I punched “post” on my share this week, I caught myself hoping that you in particular would find crime to check it out. It tells how my DB tech support team met the challenge of one of our own fighting with breast cancer.

You may have noticed how uncomfortable support engineers get when faced with something they can’t fix and while that was certainly true, we found a battle we could win in the situation.

Hope you find time to check it out.

Hi Gary – I did read your post but didn’t have time to comment. It was an inspiring story how everyone came together to help.

Thanks. I return to work Monday, but will still have time to enjoy the out-of-doors.

      Have a good week!
