If We Were Having Coffee on the 17th of February, 2018

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll grab you a large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea (black, white, green or herbal), a mug of hot cocoa or other warm beverage.  It is a little chilly out there and the wind is awful.  Were are we?  Some of you may recognize those Beatles’ mugs as living at the cottage on Cape Cod, and you would be right!

On Tuesday we had a big group get-together at the region office.  Although I’ve never worked out of the region (I used to visit often), because everyone teleworks these days, they decided to have one day quarter for everyone in IT to spend a day together at the RO to have some face to face time.  Funny, I work with nobody from the RO these days and have never met the people i do work with!  Oh well, it was still a nice day.  The thing is, since I was about a third of the way to The Cape, I decided to continue down after work and telecommute from here the rest of the week.

It did turn into a busy week.  Most of it was self-induced.  Not in a bad way, i.e., not because i did something stupid, but because I wanted to take some things off of the back burner, where they were nice and happy to simmer, and move them to the front, turning up the heat in the process.

The weather was warmish (for February in New England) but wet.  I did run, so that’s nice.  I also took walks in the woods, which is also nice.  I’m sure I could have kayaked, but didn’t.  Besides being much colder, it’s a little too windy today.

Beyond that, I really don’t remember much from this week.  I am taking a break from writing.  I have been thinking about writing, marketing, etc., but not doing a lot.  I have rethought my schedule on these things.   I guess I’m taking a breather.

Despite being cold and windy, it is sunny out there and looks beautiful.  Fiyero hasn’t been well for a few days :(  But Idina will need a walk soon.  I also need a walk soon ;)  If you haven’t noticed, I have to constantly be on the move.  When I sit for too long, I feel awful.

Anyway, So I will be getting out.  I’ll stop back by on occasion today and will try to catch up some more.

Nice to have the chat!  I hope you have a great week!  Talk to you later.

The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived!  Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share.  This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in!  Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory :)

Hi Trent. I didn’t realize the coffee chat had been revived. I’ll have to jump on board again this weekend. It’s been warm here and we’re about to break some record highs this week. If the water wasn’t so cold, I’d consider kayaking (we just have the sit-on-top and I tend to get quite wet in it). I know what you mean about moving. My body isn’t happy if it doesn’t get plenty of movement.
    Have a great week! :)

After I wrote my coffee post the wind died down so I actually made it out on the kayak. Very nice to paddle in February! It is going to be warm up here this week. I think we’ll see low 70s tomorrow!

Not a lot of people do the coffee share any more, and they are slow to trickle in – more posting on Sunday than Saturday, but it is still happening. It would be great if you could join again!

Hi Trent. Thanks for the decaf tea. It’s after midnight here and it’s actually pouring outside for the first time in yonks. Can’t remember when it last rained. The rain is desperately needed here. Our backyard is a sandpit mostly due to lack of water, but also due to the dogs. Zac and Rosie tear around playing tip and chasings and dig a fair bit as well. It makes it very difficult for me to reach our clothesline and I usually get domestic assistance to deal with it.
The rain feels very atmospheric and cleansing and it’s intriguing listening to the various sounds of the falling droplets. It all sounds very musical (or perhaps it’s just my imagination).
Sometimes, I think it would be funny to have Skype running while we do our coffee shares. I’m snug in my recliner with my feet and the ski jumping is on TV. Zac is on my lap with my laptop over the top of him. I have a stable stable between him and the laptop which has a sort of beanbag underneath. He doesn’t seem to mind.
How is Fiyero going? Any improvement? Hope he’s okay.
    Anyway, had better keep moving.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

I’m glad you got some rain. I understand a dog-created sandpit of a back yard – Fiyero and Idina just tear the place to shreds. the yard on Cape Cod will never recover…

Fiyero is better. We have a vet appointment this afternoon, but I think he’s fine. He just ate something he shouldn’t have. There is a possibility, though, that there might be a scratch or something inside since I saw a little blood on Saturday. So a trip to the vet is called for.

Something like Skype could be fun. It would be nice to get the entire gang together. That being said, I have enough problem connecting with people two time zones away, I can’t imaging the nightmare of trying to get someone from the UK, the US and Australia on at the same time!

I hope you have a great week!

It’s neat to meet folks you’ve worked with for a while, face to face finally.. My company is piloting a new program which I hope includes telecommuting and I REALLY hope is successful. I’d get so much more done. Thanks for the coffee and have a great week!

It’s funny, but the people at the office where I went on Tuesday are people that I used to work with about 10 years ago. I have never met a lot of the people I work with now. Not even the contractors that work for me. Maybe some day I’ll find a way to meet those people.

Telecommuting is great. I do enjoy it a lot. It does take some discipline. I hope your company’s program is successful

      Have a great week!

In ways that’s the RO – no desk, but they like me to drop by on occasion. I do have a desk at a field office that I use twice a week, but in ways it is almost worthless – I get as much done telecommuting.

I loved telecommuting, but no every place allows it and some of the work I did required I be able to actually talk to live people. As the years went on and Massachusetts’ “95 miracle” became the 95 slump, the local jobs got really sparse, especially as my salary had gone up and no one wanted to hire me for less money even though I would gladly have taken it. So the commutes got insanely long, Hopelessly long.

That is too bad about the insanely long commutes. Driving from Wilton, NH to Burlington, MA during the morning rush hour last Tuesday, I was very happy I didn’t have that commute every day!

I’d like some hot chocolate please, even though it’s sunny and in the 70s here in Alabama. I thought about going for a kayak ride too, but you’re right, it’s too windy and the water is too cold if I were to have an ‘incident.’ Have a great weekend…let’s hope the predicted rain waits until later in the week.

Hot chocolate coming up… I actually did make it out into the kayak today. The wind died down and the sun was out, so it was pretty nice. I did remember seeing a post about you leaving the cold behind for Alabama. I hope you are having a good time!

I’ll have herbal tea thank you very much….
So our weather is still currently summerish and it’s raining… Technically our 4 seasons more like hot dry season, hot wet season, cold wet season and cold dry season
Right now it’s hot and wet…. Raining a lot

It’s always fun to talk to people half way around the world and seeing the different weather. It’s one thing to know and understand that the seasons are opposite in the other hemisphere and a little different to talk to someone how is living there and experiencing it. One of the benefits of blogging…

When I started my blog, I planned on having few “personal” posts. But then, I fell into the Coffee Shares pretty early, I think in 2014, and have really enjoyed them. I still stay relatively vague, but it is nice being able to be a little more personal once a week.

The need to move isn’t for you alone this week, Trent. It seems I’ve been literally running everywhere! A bit like a cat in a room of rocking chairs. Haven’t caught my tail, yet… but the threat still looms. Been hitting a bit of writer’s block this week that is uncommon for me.

I’m like that pretty much all of the time. I have to build walking breaks into work, and if I have back to back meetings, I don’t sit, but stand. Writer’s block is also pretty uncommon for me. I think this week it is much more lack of motivation than writer’ block – last week I finished my 4th draft of my WIP, The Halley Branch, and did an edit and republish of The Fireborn, which is already on Amazon. I think I just need a break.

Sounds like you do need a break. I can’t wait for the weather to break so I can get back to walking. Can’t run anymore, so I’m confined to walking… summer months I walk about 9-12 miles a day.
