Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a mug of very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea (we have a variety) a mug of cocoa or other beverage. It is funny, out. The sky is grey and it feels like snow. We did get a dusting over night. but it is supposed to get relatively warm today. And were are we? Some of you may recognize that mug and synthesizer at the top of the page as living in new Hampshire.
Week: Work. Play. Eat. Sleep. Questions? ;)
I read The Halley Branch out loud and made a lot of little changes (wording, etc.). I am calling the 4th draft finished. I like were I am, but I may need to go back and cut some redundant stuff. It all makes sense the way it is, but I do repeat myself. Sometimes I do it on purpose. Other times, well,it is just how it works out. So I need to see if I can cut down a bit (I’m at 100K words…). That, the trimming, will be my next draft.
I’ve also started to read The Fireborn out loud and edit it. I know there are a lot of typos. I’ve found a few, but so far mostly I’ve just cleaned things up. Not a huge amount yet, but a bit. Some awkward sentences, putting in commas, etc. I’ve had a few people sy they saw a lot of typos, so hopefully I can get a list of some of them and catch those. As soon as I put up a cleaner version, I want to promote it heavier. I would like to have more sales than I can count on the fingers of one hand….
We had a storm on Wednesday. It was pretty nasty most of the day. I walked to my massage appointment in the middle of it. There was a lot of rain in the middle – the rain started earlier than predicted. When I went out on Thursday, I had a crust of ice over now with ice underneath. Yuck. There are still some messy places…
That’s about it for this week. I hope you had a great week!
The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived! Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share. This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in! Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory :)
It’s interesting how reading something aloud rather than to ourselves uncovers things we miss. And as the saying goes, I always do my best editing after hitting Send. :-) Have a great week!

It is amazing how much read aloud uncovers. I think it forces us to look at every word. And yes, I catch more mistakes after hitting send, post or publish than before ;)

Happy Monday to you, Trent. Thanks for the coffee. I’m currently watching Stephen Colbert. Do you watch him? He comes on pretty late here and is a sign I should be asleep. I had a rough week after the electronic recliner I requested under the National Disability Insurance Scheme was rejected because I can walk. I am fuming because my muscle disease specifically affects the muscles which enable you to get in and out of chairs and from where I sit, their response was pure discrimination. Of course, I’m fighting back but the stress and despair has hit me like a Mac truck and I’m really struggling to get around and am concern the disease will flare up again. Nothing is worth that and yet it’s important to defend yourself and the rights of others living with disabilities.
It is in instances like this that being a writer is a huge benefit and I’ve always been a great letter writer. Not a brief one, but it’s where my writing really comes into it’s own.
Meanwhile, Rosie has outdone herself in the food thieving stakes tonight. She stole a jar of minced garlic off the kitchen bench and both pups stink of garlic breath. They ate a whole jar of it. Talk about garlic breath!
Hope you have a great week!
Best wishes,
Ro

Unfortunately, Steven Colbert is on too late for me. Yes, I know it can be recorded, but I watch so little TV. I think I caught his old show, which was a satire, more than the new one.
Sounds like a pain, literally and figuratively. I hope you fight goes well.
Our last dog, Elliot, was great food thief, counter surfer extraordinaire, but I don’t think he ever ate a jar of garlic. He did steal veggies, but garlic? I’m glad he didn’t! Dog breath is bad enough. Garlic dog breath must be awful.
Have a great week!

Sounds like you’ve been having a bit of a time with weather! I hope you find the errors in Fireborn. I’ll have to send you a note about one thing I thought could be improved in Halley Branch. Maybe you have already discovered it but while you’re editing and stuff, you should know.

The weather has been odd – it was 35 and rainy all day. It is now 32 and pouring. Awful….
I caught a lot of errors in The Fireborn and just posted the revision. I doubt if I caught them all, but I did want to get a cleaner version up sooner than later. I may revisit again later.
If you you have a note about The Halley Branch, go ahead and send it. Do you have my email? Just be aware, if you are basing it on what I posted a couple of years ago, it has been greatly changed since then. I almost doubled the length and even changed some names. I hope it is a much better book! I may soon be asking for beta readers, so if you want to hold off and be on the beta team, that is an option.
I hope you are doing well! Have a great week.

I’d love to read it when you’re done. I’ll send you the comment in an email tonight, for what it’s worth. You’ve probably already caught it. But just in case, I’ll send you my two cents!

Thanks, Corina. I may do the beta read soon, between my 4th and 5th draft, just in case I missed something huge I could fix it.

Good luck with the editing; it is not easy! I have decided to pay someone to edit for me anytime I write and publish something over 120 words. Recording your own book is a great idea! I’ve thought about that, but haven’t gone beyond just the idea. Have a great week, Trent!

Thanks! It is tough, particularly going over the already published “The Fireborn” and cleaning up what should have been clean!

Oh, I did that too! I hated finding mistakes once it had been published. That’s really tough!

it is tough. Hopefully I got most of them, or at least enough that i don’t hear about it from my readers…

Do you ever record your reading when editing and play it back to yourself? I have tried it a few times and I find it is helpful. Another great coffee blog, thanks for sharing.

I hate my voice! lol. I haven’t been doing that, but I’ve that of it. I do try to read it as if I were recording a “book on tape” version. I might try recording it when I go back through The Halley Branch again.
Thanks. have a great week!

I agree that it is strange to hear one’s self reading on a recording, haha. You have a good week too.
