The Gift – #Tanka

Pyschodelic Music

If you’re down and blue
I will write a song for you
For your ears alone
This small gift I’ll give to you
To repay the seeds you’ve sown

I don’t know if this is technically a Tanka.  It has the 5-7-5-7-7 scheme and the last two lines are stand alone (maybe), but it is a bit different….

Anyway, this was written for Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge.  The key words for the week were “Gift” and “Song”.

To be 100% truthful, 99% of my music is instrumental and most of my poetry is just written as poetry. But I do occasionally set some to music and have written melodies based on words that weren’t part of the finished instrumental composition.

Thanks Charly. More like blue “I” than blue eye, but then again…

The form is a tanka. In ways it is like taking a haiku and then adding a tag with two lines of 7 each onto the end. The way I’ve been doing it, the haiku part is descriptive while the last two lines sum up/explain the haiku. This was a little different, just because it was what I wanted to write.
