A Teaser…

Middle Purgatory Falls

In about a week I am going to share some photos of today’s hike.  I just wanted to post this teaser…

This is Middle Purgatory Falls.  I used a very slow shutter speed, but it is handheld.  I have a new camera and this is a test shot…  Do you think it passed? ;)

Here in NH we are overachievers – we have three levels of Purgatory: Upper, Lower and Middle ;) I’m not sure what Heavenly Falls would look like, but if Purgatory is this nice… ;) This is Purgatory Brook, which flows down Purgatory Hill and there are the three main Purgatory Falls. I looked it up once and nobody knows why they named it “Purgatory” – something lost in history.

Thanks! I have only had a chance to glance through the pictures from this hike, but I’m extremely happy with pretty much all of them! The hard part will be going from a 500 shots taken to a handful to post ;)

Thanks. One thing about this camera, it has a lower ISO so I can get the longer exposures. My old camera only goes down to ISO 200 while this one has an “extended” mode, which I think is ISO 50 or 60. I did photos at both (200 and extended), and the extended mode did much better with the wispy, creamy flowing water and waterfalls.

It was a very beautiful hike. I think I got a few more fairy-tale photos of wispy water flowing through emerald landscapes with the towering, hard granite as a background.
