There is so much in the news that is sad. Of course a nerd like me who grew up with Star Wars has to be very bummed out today. But thinking of Star Wars, have you seen the Chewbacca Mom video? It was out a few months ago but has been making the news again recently (here it is on BBC).
OK, quick recap – A woman who looks like someone you might see in a store or something, nobody special, is modeling a Chewabacca mask in her car. She just laughs and laughs at her latest purchase. The whole thing seems on the surface a little mundane (it’s just some mom playing with a toy), more than a bit silly (OK, a lot silly) and maybe even slightly stupid. But. But it is totally impossible to watch it without smiling or even laughing along with the mom. There is just something about her. She doesn’t care if she does look silly or a little stupid, she’s having fun. A lot of fun. And it is contagious. Click here and try to watch without smiling.
This video is the most watched Facebook Live video ever (164 million views) and has almost as many hits on Youtube (hard to know since it has been shared so widely). And it’s nothing more than a bit of silly fun and some real joy. But isn’t that missing in our lives?
So that is my smile for this week, a bit of true, innocent joy that has been shared all over the “Internet-webs”.
What made you smile this week?
If you haven’t seen it, here is a little background to The Weekly Smile as well as some quick guidelines.
So, what made you smile this week? Write about it and post on the link-up (or click the little blue frog below). While you’re there, read what everyone else is smiling about! And come back to it later, if last week is any indication new smiles will be added daily!
Note – the weekly smile runs Wednesday Morning to Wednesday morning. I post in the morning (Eastern US) and put up the link usually between 7 and 8 AM EST. I also try to post on Sunday as a reminder. People can and do join throughout the week.
