They have graced our living rooms for the last two weeks. Some of their names ring out up there with the all time greats: Bolt, Ledecky, Phelps, two great Simones (Biles and Manuel), etc., etc., etc. The vast majority of the names were never heard by most of the world, but they were still winners just for being there. Many said Brazil couldn’t pull it off, but they did.
I saw bits and pieces of the Olympics every day. I read and saw many stories. Some were disappointing, like the lies told by some American swimmers. Others were heart warming Some of the reporting was very intolerant, some sexist, but for the most part the coverage I saw celebrated the diversity of people on this globe gathering together in sportsmanship.
For two weeks the world gathered as one, may we keep that spirit alive for the next four years.
So midweek (in terms of the weekly smile) I am smiling for the the games of the last two weeks.
What made you smile this week?
If you haven’t seen it, here is a little background to The Weekly Smile as well as some quick guidelines.
So, what made you smile this week? Write about it and post on the link-up (or click the little blue frog below). While you’re there, read what everyone else is smiling about! And come back to it later, if last week is any indication new smiles will be added daily!
Note – the weekly smile runs Wednesday Morning to Wednesday morning. I post in the morning (Eastern US) and put up the link usually between 7 and 8 AM EST. I also try to post on Sunday as a reminder. People can and do join throughout the week.
