Weekly Smile #28 #weeklysmile

Weekly Smile #WeeklySmile

Weekly Smile #WeeklySmile

Back in early December I read a Facebook post that inspired me to try an experiment.  Here is a paraphrase of that post:

“There are days I go in search of the kind, compassionate, loving and beautiful. Despite what we sometimes see on the news, FB and elsewhere, there is much more beauty in the world than ugliness, much more kindness than hate or cruelty. Perhaps we should all have a goal to make at least one person smile every day.”

So I started to do a daily post, A Smile A Day.  I hung on to the end of December and had a total of 28 posts.  I found it wasn’t easy.  Yes, I have a lot to be thankful for and there are plenty of smiles in there, but to write a post every day about it is difficult.  So I decided to try it every week, the Weekly Smile.

One thing is I quickly found people forget about it after the first day, so I started putting up a second Weekly Smile Reminder post on Sunday.  Of course I added a “smile” for that post, so two posts every week.

Still the response has been light.  A handful of people join almost every week, but it’s a small handful.  Occasionally I get someone else joining, but usually it’s the same few.

So here it is a little over a half a year later at week 28.  I did 28 daily smiles.  Is perhaps 28 the magic number?  Of course with the weekly smiles it is somewhere around 50 since I usually have two smiles a week, but still, officially it is Week 28.

I don’t want to let down that faithful handful who do post every week.  And also there are a few friends on Facebook (the real type of friends) who I know enjoy it and would hate to see it go away, I’m just not sure.  Will there be a 29?  Most likely, though at the very second I’m not 100% sure.

After that non-smile, here is a very big smile – those people who do put up a smile post every week or almost every week.  For example, nerdinthebrain and ladyleemanila are there almost every week.  Also I often see Corina (Wasted Days and Wasted Nights)  and Rowena (Beyond the Flow), who both contribute often.  Oh yes, can’t forget Tessa (several blogs, last connected on Always a Writer), who tries to come up with a smile most weeks.  And well, I’m sure there have been plenty of others that I’ve missed who contributed off and on.  I know a few (A Day in the Life, View from the Porch, In the Zone, Reflections and Nightmares, Crazy Life) have contributed at least on occasion, and I’m sure there are more that I’ve missed.  OK, OK, I guess more people have participated than I thought.  The problem is, usually there are about five links a week, more or less, lately usually less, so I forget how many people have actually posted their own smile.

So that is a very big smile, those people who are helping spread the smiles. :)

That’s my smile for this week, other smiling bloggers.

What made you smile this week?

If you haven’t seen it, here is a little background to The Weekly Smile as well as some quick guidelines.

So, what made you smile this week? Write about it and post on the link-up (or click the little blue frog below). While you’re there, read what everyone else is smiling about! And come back to it later, if last week is any indication new smiles will be added daily!

I totally understand where you’re coming from…some weeks I have several Three Things Thursday participants, but most weeks it’s just one or two posts and some cricket noises. ;) I need to relist it on the Blog Events page since the link I used a billion years ago for that is dead now.

Whatever you choose to do (keep it or ditch it), I hope you keep having lots of smiles! :D

Why not use your 3 Things for a Weekly Smile post? I am sure you could swing it. Save the 3 things and post it for a smile or smile reminder. I would hate to see it go away. If it were me, I would give it more time to catch on. But that’s me, half full pitcher!

I will give it more time. We’ll see how it goes after I connect it up with WP events. I may take your suggestion. I have this format in my mind when I do the posts, so I’d have to figure out a new format. I do feel like a bit of a hypocrite to complain nobody joins in while I don’t join in theirs. Well, I do a couple.
Usually I’m a “the pitcher is refillable” type of person, but I do get down on occasion ;)

Trent, did you get it listed on the Daily Post’s Events page? https://dailypost.wordpress.com/blog-events-listing/
I checked but don’t see you there.
If you haven’t already, fill in the form at the bottom of this page: http://wp.me/P23sd-974 and they’ll put it up for you. The listing brought me a lot of new participants for Thursday Doors, especially at first. It was (and still is) a really good way to help get the word out to a broader WP audience.

I really want to make the effort to take part, I’m sure a couple of people that follow me would do it too. Personally, ugh, with all this political stuff in the UK, I’ve mostly been in an eternal state of “Gah”. However, if the 100 happy days taught me anything it’s that you always find a happy moment even amongst the “gah” and it would be good for me to pay attention to that.

I understand the “Gah” from political stuff! We haven’t had anything like the Brexit yet, but if Trump is elected, something equally stupid will happen! Most likely worse… Plus the violence (One reason I didn’t have a great smile this week…). Sometimes it is hard. Of course, if something makes you smile and you don’t get a chance to share it, well, you know, it’s a great thing that something made you smile :)

I hope America really sees how broken our country is from “Making our country great again”. It’s just broken, not great in the slightest! And as John Oliver said, theres no do overs!

I’m assuming your primary objective was to have a weekly post that shared some sunshine with your readers’. You hoped others would like to participate, but in the process it sounds like you lost sight of the primary goal – sharing a smile.
Regardless of how many others have participated in your theme, your posts have been creative and positive. That sounds like success to me.

Good point – the whole idea was to spread a little bit of “positiveness” on my blog in sharing a smile, not how many participate or share their own smiles. So if one person smiles because they read my post, hey, I succeeded, right? :)

      Thanks for the feedback!
