Weekly Smile Week 8 #weeklysmile

Weekly Smile #WeeklySmile

At the last minute I decided to change my smile.  I’m sorry, but today’s smile will be bitter sweet.

I haven’t posted in a few days and so, of course, I’ve been having few views.  Half way through the day I noticed a spike.  Curious I looked and someone had gone through the pictures of my last Boxer, Elliot Carter McDonald (yes, he was named after the famous American composer who was still living when Elliot was born).  I didn’t think anything of it, people do pick up old posts.  Only later I saw someone had gone back and looked more.  They also looked at some other puppy posts, like of baby Idina and baby Fiyero.  But it was mostly Elliot.  Spread out over 5 hours someone kept coming back and looking.  Some of the early puppy pictures were viewed 14 times.  All in all, I had half again as many views as my previous top viewing day, and it was all one person.

I couldn’t resist.  I had to go and look.  So I went through the pictures one at a time.  I wrote a narrative along with the pictures.  The each have a sentence or two about him.  The post was a memorial.  So I read all of the words and remembered.  For a while last night I had a large smile on my face while I had a tear in my eye.  OK, not one tear, but many.  Elliot had an oversized personality and was in many way like a child.  His end came far too early and way too sudden.  But this morning I will continue to remember him and keep with the smile part.

At about 6 weeks Elliot was a playful pup full of mischief. The breeder’s 21 year old daughter took a shine to Elliot. I thought we might have gained a daughter… He was so cute…

As I said, my smile this week was a bitter sweat smile.  It was a life remembered.

What did you smile about?

If you haven’t seen it, here is a little background to The Weekly Smile as well as some quick guidelines.

So, what made you smile this week? Write about it and post on the linky (or click the little blue frog below). While you’re there, read what everyone else is smiling about! And come back to it later, if last week is any indication new smiles will be added daily!

The end of December and back to Chapins. This is the picture I will keep to remember him…

I was very sad when we lost him, now it just sometimes touches my heart when I think of him, but not an overwhelming force or constant or anything. I’m sure he’s in a better place :)

I spend a lot of time looking at my stats. The stats exploded and I tried to find out why. Later I could see all of the hits on some of the photos. Clicking “view all” I don’t see the views from the photos, but once there were4 more views from some of the photos than other posts I could see them on the main stats page.

I have a degree in Mathematics, so stats are my friend ;) A lot of information can be gather from the stats, but it doesn’t tell you everything.

I don’t disbelieve in the paranormal or ghosts. I think of myself as a science based person, but then I think there might be some things that science doesn’t explain, or at least not yet. 200 years ago we thought we knew everything and just had to tidy it up a bit,and look how much further we’ve come! So, yeah, even though I try to be scientific in everything I do think there are a lot of things that can’t be explained. That means I don’t rule out ghosts….

My house looks like it should be haunted. It is old (for here) and has a checkered past. But I have been here for years and there have only been one or two times that something happened that I can find no logical explanation for. Doesn’t mean weird shit doesn’t happen that I miss ;)

Actually, I think I answered something you started to put up someplace else, but that’s OK, we can have the same conversation in more than one place :)

Aaah I see, the houses around where I live are pretty old too, they are from the times of British rule and older…
I believe in paranormal since we experienced it first hand and some other reasons too.
Your story was really spooky though, I hope nothing like that happens again. How is your eye now btw? :)

The eye is much better thanks. All of the red is gone! I just checked – it was still a little red yesterday, but not much today.

They say my house is from 1880, but I think that’s when the last addition was put on. I think parts of it go back into the 18th century – there are huge beams that were sawed by hand and yet there was mill here since at least very early 1800s, if not earlier. I have experienced a few things, but…. I try to keep an open mind.

Oh wow I love old vintage houses, they are so warm and cozy, unlike most of the latest houses which maybe technologically advance but they miss that homely factor, Idk just my opinion though…
and I’m glad your eye is better. You didn’t wear an eye patch like the pirates now did you? ;)

Old house’s are great! except they are very expensive to heat… And very hard to maintain… and… ;) Anyway, I’d love to be very rich and live in a great old house and have someone else take care of it :)
I only occasionally wear the pirate eye patch, you know, when I’m going out for a special night, but that has nothing to do with my hurt eye ;) Maybe I should find one and take a selfie with my hat and an eye patch.

Haha well when you put it like that, yeah it is not easy to live in a house like that ! :P

By special night do you mean “Halloween” ?! :D And yes definitely, take a picture!!! We will be looking forward to it ! ;) :D

Expressive eyes seems to be a trait with Boxers, at ours have all had expressive eyes. They can communicate so much. Many good memories and a lot of pictures. Well worth shedding a tear or two every so often.

He was a great little guy. We lost Elliot just 2 years ago which means it was 6 1/2 or 7 years since we lost our first Boxer, Brady. And even with him I still get emotional when I think about him. Furry kids.

Hi Sara. It was nice to go back in and look at them again – for a while it was too painful and then…well, we have Fiyero and Idina now, so I try not to dwell on the past.
