A Smile a Day – Day 6 – Brotherhood in Music

Guess ;)

I’ve always liked U2. Yes, I like their music, from the albums “Boy” and “October”, which I first heard in ’82 or ’83, up to today. But I like them as people. They have always tried to give something back.

Recently their Paris concert was cancelled due to the terrorist attacks. But they still came into the city and showed their commitment to the people of Paris, placing flowers . The also came back for 2 concerts as soon as they could. One thing they did is bring the band Eagles of Death Metal on stage with them. Most of the deaths in the Paris attacks happened at the Eagles of Death Metal concert.

Here are some things U2 did for this band. After the attack they got them new cell phones, the band having lost theirs in the chaos. Then they flew them back to the US on their private jet. Now they have shared a Paris stage with them.

They didn’t have to do any of this.

But they did. And that makes me smile :)

Here is an article on BBC.

I’m sure it was hard for them, not to mention having to follow one of the most popular bands in the world, but as you said, with the support they had… And you know, after what they went through the audience would have loved them being there even if they had the worst performance of their lives.

That did make me smile – and how totally awesome that was of them to do That – what generosity – and you know another example of how some good can come from these sad events – sometimes friendships are forged and hears unite – and I guess we also forget about the practical loss (like loss of phones) people go through with these events – yuck!

It was nice of them. Sure, it didn’t take to much to do, but this is a big case of “it’s the thought that counts”. We usually don’t think of the little things, like losing cell phones, when there are so many big things, like people losing lives or being injured. But somebody does have to deal with those little things, and if it’s someone like U2, well, hey, that’s great!

I agree – and here in Virginia they actually have a victims assistance fund to help victims – and I guess they help with these exact needs – but how cool of U2! And just remembered when their music was downloaded to all Apple iPhones and many folks were

Yes, a huge, huge contrast between Bono and the Kardashians! I would hope that if you could use your fame and influence to help people you would, but I guess some feel that way more than others.
